We are currently looking for an enthusiastic caring person to become our next Field Service Engineer. Come join the team to help us by supporting our service centre and the needs of our patients out in the community. Our Ipswich Approved Repair Service supports our NHS Wheelchair service in the distribution and maintenance of chairs across the whole of Suffolk. We are a dedicated team and take pride in our achievements to support the needs of others.

As a company, help us to achieve the agreed contractual standard of service required. By completing initial training in the workshop reconditioning wheelchair equipment, you will gain essential product knowledge to support your development. Once fully trained, you will work out in the field delivering, collecting, repairing, and servicing wheelchairs, all in the knowledge that you are helping meet the needs of others. The expectation is that most jobs will be completed on a first-time fix basis, meaning no impact on our patients.

The Role:

  • Delivering and collecting wheelchairs to and from service users’ homes and NHS departments, ensuring that the Company Infection Control Policy is followed.
  • Servicing and repairing wheelchairs in the field with the aim of achieving a first-time fix whenever possible.
  • Ensure all paperwork/Scanners relating to each job is read carefully and completed with all necessary information regarding parts used and actions taken written onto the job card.
  • Ensure any PPE supplied for use in carrying out your duties is used as instructed.
  • Once fully trained, undertake out of hours responsibility when rostered.
  • Observe all regulations covering the driving and use of the Company vehicle on the public highway.
  • Keep the vehicle you use in a tidy state and ensure stocks of all necessary parts are replenished each day.
  • Maintain a professional customer service attitude and always use discretion when dealing with all service users and other agencies.
  • Prioritise and organise your workload, referring to Line Manager as appropriate.
  • Be responsible for the maintenance and safe keeping of all tools and equipment provided by the Company.

About you:

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Successful enhanced DBS check.
  • General workshop knowledge.
  • Basic electrical knowledge including 12v/24v D.C. systems.
  • Able to move and handle loads and equipment safely.
  • Experience of face-to-face customer contact.
  • An awareness and understanding of people with disabilities.
  • Flexible approach to working conditions and environment change.
  • Ability to use own initiative within set boundaries of the role.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Awareness of hand-held scanners.

Physical demands of the job:

  • Moving and handling of equipment and accessories following handling guidelines.
  • Standing at a bench to work.
  • Kneeling/crouching working in confined workspace if the job necessitates.
  • Use of ramps and any other agreed moving equipment.

Most challenging/difficult part of the role:

  • Flexible working/responsive to changing priorities as set by Line Manager or Customer Service team.
  • Committing to being available for short notice overtime necessitated by emergency response requirements.
  • Responsibility of out of hours duties.

Confidentiality: Carrying out the work involved with this position, the employee will become party to confidential information including service user information. It is of paramount importance that all information is kept private and confidential.
