Role Overview

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, caring person to become our next Service Support Engineer. The role supports our service centre and the needs of patients across Suffolk, working with the NHS Wheelchair Service to distribute and maintain chairs. Ross Care, part of the Medux group, supplies essential equipment and aids to schools, care homes, hospitals and patients in their homes on a daily basis.

Job Purpose

Help us achieve the agreed contractual standard of service. After completing initial training, you will recondition wheelchair equipment, gaining essential product knowledge and supporting your own development. You will then work in the field, delivering, collecting, repairing and servicing wheelchairs, aiming for a first‑time fix to avoid any impact on patients.

The Role

  • Deliver and collect wheelchairs to and from service user homes and NHS departments, following the Company Infection Control Policy.
  • Servicing and repairing wheelchairs in the field, aiming for a first‑time fix whenever possible.
  • Ensure all paperwork/scan data for each job is complete with accurate information on parts used and actions taken.
  • Use all provided PPE as instructed.
  • Undertake out‑of‑hours responsibilities when rostered.
  • Observe all regulations covering the use of the company vehicle on public highways and comply with Health & Safety at Work Act responsibilities.
  • Keep the vehicle tidy and ensure parts stock is replenished daily.
  • Complete the vehicle safety check and van check sheet each week.
  • Maintain a professional customer‑service attitude and wear your uniform and identification badge at all times.
  • Prioritise and organise your workload, referring to your line manager as appropriate.
  • Responsibly maintain all tools and equipment provided by the Company in accordance with the handbook.

About You

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Successful enhanced DBS check.
  • General workshop knowledge.
  • Basic electrical knowledge, including 12V/24V DC systems.
  • Ability to move and handle loads and equipment safely.
  • Experience of face‑to‑face customer contact.
  • Previous delivery driver experience.
  • Awareness and understanding of people with disabilities.
  • Flexible approach to working conditions and environment change.
  • Initiative within set role boundaries.
  • Use of a mobile phone to relay photographs.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to relay clear instructions to clients.
  • Awareness of hand‑held scanners.

Physical Demands Of The Job

  • Moving and handling equipment and accessories following handling guidelines.
  • Standing at a bench to work.
  • Kneeling or crouching.
  • Working in confined spaces if required (e.g., installing equipment in small toilet areas or bathrooms).
  • Use of ramps and other agreed moving equipment.

Most Challenging/Difficult Parts Of The Role

  • Flexibly respond to changing priorities set by the line manager or customer service team.
  • Commit to availability for short‑notice overtime required by emergency response.
  • Manage out‑of‑hour duties responsibly.

The employee will have access to confidential service user information and must keep all information private and confidential, not disclosing it to any third party.

What Can We Offer You?

  • Annual salary of ÂŁ26,395.20 per annum.
  • Monday to Friday 08:00–16:30 (40 hours per week).
  • 20 days holiday plus bank holidays, plus optional 5 unpaid days.
