Role Purpose

We are looking for a Research Director to join our Copper Markets Research team. This role will be based in London, joining a global team of well-established experts. As part of the Metals and Mining Research Unit, the Copper Markets team is responsible for delivering comprehensive research coverage of the global copper markets, covering supply, demand, and pricing. Wood Mackenzie’s high-quality copper research provides value to our clients, by providing a guide to the rapidly transitioning energy sector and assisting clients to make the best commercial decisions to secure their business success.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct original quantitative and qualitative research on global copper demand and deliver analysis through the creation of data services, proprietary data, written reports, public speaking, and custom research engagements. This role will involve projecting the trajectory of the copper market in the long-term.
  • Develop and publish opinion-rich, thematic Copper Markets related thought leadership content, with minimal support.
  • Recognized authority on Copper Demand, comfortable challenging and being challenged and effective at adapting engagement style and tone.
  • Ability to see the high-level strategic picture in complex evidence and condense multifaceted issues into clear and concise messages.
  • Engage in dialogue with clients at differing levels of seniority and regularly provide advice and commentary.
  • Have an established media presence and leverage Marketing to establish a personal profile.
  • Monitor the competitive environment to identify threats and opportunities and develop plans to address them.
  • Strong coach and mentor to analysts.

About You

  • You are degree-qualified in a relevant discipline (Economics, Business, Mining, Geology, Engineering etc.) and have experience in the metals and mining sectors.
  • You understand the big picture and can analyse and form clear conclusions from a variety of data.
  • You have a high understanding of the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • You are thoughtful, intellectually curious, and comfortable presenting to public audiences.
  • You have a proven track record of fostering strong working relationships and influencing others.
  • You are commercially astute and thrive in a collaborative environment.
  • You are recognised by colleagues as someone who shares insight and develops junior talent.
  • You understand the value of expert insight for business decision making.

Deliverables (INTERNAL ONLY)

  • Produce analysis and written content for our Global Copper long- and short-term market outlooks.
  • Maintain excellent client relationships by reaching out to subscribers and giving tailored presentations.
  • Gain industry presence through a firm network of client relationships and conference speaking slots.
  • Collaborate across global teams to build strong connections and grow our team’s influence.
  • Identify and deliver on commercial product enhancements.
  • Ensure content quality and editorial integrity of the copper markets products.
  • Work closely with consulting to deliver on tailored projects as needed.

We are a hybrid working company and the successful applicant will be expected to be physically present in the office at least 2 days per week. While this is expected to be a full-time role, part-time or flexible working arrangements will be considered.
