The Role
The Head of PMO will ensure successful planning, execution and completion of projects to develop and launch new products, both internally developed and with external partners, as well post-launch activities through the Product Lifecycle Management Process. The role holds end to end oversight of the entire product pipeline and is responsible for reporting monthly updates to the Board, in partnership with Finance. As a functional Head, the role is responsible for leadership of the PMO team, including defining long term vision and strategy, defining and implementing industry best practices, and personnel development. Our Head of PMO contributes to overall creation of company strategy through Long Range Planning, and creation of the pipeline in conjunction with Corporate Development, Commercial and other stakeholders. This role is based in the UK - must be able to travel to our Head Office in Leeds where required.
Responsibilities
- Portfolio Management: Oversee the company’s pipeline, including prioritization, resource allocation and strategic planning to meet business objectives. The Head of PMO will be expected to implement best practices and global standards for current business, as well as potential future acquisitions, for project, programme and pipeline management.
- Project Planning and Execution: Partner with business stakeholders, sponsors and lead and direct project managers to support robust project management practices to improve project outcomes. Develop and maintain clarity of process controls, interdependency alignment, and formal process documentation for all processes. Ensure comprehensive project plans are developed, including milestones and deliverables. Build a “can do” mindset within projects teams, challenge thinking and hold stakeholders to account.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate projects risks, and where appropriate, initiate contingency options to increase chance of successful, on-time delivery.
- Stakeholder communication: Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Exemplify strong partnership and collaborating, creating a vision for shared success.
- Lean: Build lean capability within the PMO team and implement across any pipeline project related processes. Ensure any current and future business needs are reflected in project management processes, as well as being aligned with strategic objectives.
- Budget Oversight: Ensure that any costs are adequately tracked and factored into business case decisions on projects. With appropriate cross-functional partners ensure that Cost of Goods are accurately captured for pipeline projects.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor PMO team. Ensuring effective communication, collaboration and goal alignment. Build functional excellence to ensure the business is equipped with people capability and capacity.
- Due Diligence & Integration: Responsibility for agile and effective due diligence, with Business Development representative and Subject Matter Experts, prepare recommendation to Executive Leadership and Board Members. Define integration needs and deploy across business.
Requirements
- Degree qualified or equivalent, ideally in a Scientific discipline.
- 10+ years substantial experience in pharmaceutical industry including proven track record of managing projects throughout product lifecycle.
- Recruited, led and developed high performing Project Management Organisations.
- Experienced at Board Reporting and influencing Executive Leadership.
- Practical experience of deploying project management systems, tools and templates.
- Proven success in deploying cross-business process improvements.
- Outstanding planning and organisational skills.
- Ability to set clear expectations and drive accountability at all levels and across all functions.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with M&A, due diligence and integration.
- Able to lead direct and matrix organization across different timezones and geographies.
- Strong commercial acumen with ability to assess project opportunities against strategic business outcomes.
