We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated Scrap Metal Processing Operative to join our team in Dumfries. The purpose of the position is to carry out all activities necessary to ensure the safe loading, unloading and sorting of the various grades of metal within the yard. Every second Saturday is a requirement.
Key responsibilities and duties:
- Ensure vehicles are loaded and unloaded in a safe and proper manner
- Ensure materials are stored in accordance with Company policy
- Ensure all daily / weekly checks are completed
- Attend any training courses that the Company propose
- Co-ordinate with other operatives to ensure the correct processing of all loads
- Liaise with customers, drivers and contractors who visit the site
- Ensure the working area is kept clean and tidy at all times
- Comply with all Company Health and Safety and Environmental Policies
- Complete other duties as the Company may, from time to time, reasonably require
- Work flexibly across the site as directed by the Site Manager
- Operate cutting equipment (hand tools, oxy cutting equipment etc.) training provided
- Operate forklifts and other plant and machinery
Skills:
- Candidates must hold a current valid driving licence
- Forklift / plant machinery experience is considered an advantage but training will be provided
- Candidates must be reliable and work with a high level of accuracy
- Good awareness and understanding of Health and Safety
- Experience in operating cutting equipment is considered as being an advantage but not essential
- Ability to work co-operatively as part of a team
- Good communication skills
- Material handling experience an advantage
- Knowledge of metals an advantage
