Do you have excellent customer service skills? Do you want to be part of change? We are a 21,000 patient two site practice in Lowestoft. We are delighted to announce that we have a position to join our expanding team as a Medical Receptionist.
Main duties of the job
As a medical receptionist, you are the fundamental base of the practice, and so the ideal candidate would have previous GP practice or similar experience along with:
- Knowledge of the clinical systems - S1
- Registrations
- Confident and compassionate
- Familiar with electronic prescribing requests

Job responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the receptionist. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
- Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointment system
- Process personal, telephone and e-requests for appointments
- Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the caller's request appropriately
- Signpost patients to the correct service
- Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, team members and external agencies
- Photocopy documentation as required
- Data entry of new and temporary registrations and relevant patient information as required
- Input data into the patients' healthcare records as necessary
- Direct requests for information i.e. SAR, insurance/solicitors letters and DVLA forms to the administrative team
- Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient manner
- Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
- Monitor and maintain the reception area and notice boards
- Support all clinical staff with general tasks as requested
Person Specification
- Experience in a fast paced customer service environment, being able to handle multiple distractions, dropping different tasks and picking work up where left off, balancing a number of different work tasks at any one time while maintaining accurate work
- Interacting with people from all walks of life
- Proven background of the above
- Competent in the use of PCs and IT
- Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality policies
- Absolute discretion with regards to patients and colleagues
- Proven history of learning and adhering to policies and processes
- The ability to work in a fast paced environment with an attention to detail where your work directly impacts the end user
- Experience as a medical receptionist
