Head Cook / Chef – Busy Seasonal Café (Castleton, Peak District)

We are a busy, well-loved seasonal café in the heart of Castleton, in the Peak District, and we\’re looking for an experienced Head Cook / Chef to lead our kitchen. We have fantastic reviews on both Trip Advisor and Google.

Our food is simple, honest and well-executed: local meat, fresh produce, and dishes cooked to order. We serve breakfast and lunch only, with no evenings.

Opening pattern

• Open 7 days a week in summer, 5 days a week in winter
• Kitchen hours:
• Weekends: 9am–3pm
• Weekdays: 10am–3pmThis allows for sociable, flexible hours that change with the seasons.

The Role

You\’ll take ownership of the kitchen and play a key role in shaping how it runs day-to-day and across the year. Responsibilities include:

• Leading and managing the kitchen team
• Ordering, stock control and supplier relationships
• Menu planning and seasonal menu development
• Maintaining food quality, consistency and standards
• Working closely with the front-of-house team to ensure smooth service
• Ensuring food safety and kitchen organisation

About You

• Experienced cook or chef ready to lead a small, busy kitchen
• Organised, calm and confident in a fast-paced environment
• Enjoys working with fresh, local ingredients
• A good communicator who values teamwork
• Practical, hands-on and happy to be part of a close-knit team
