We are looking for an Assistant Manager to join our talented management team. The Rope & Anchor is one of our premium destination pubs within the Managed Estate — a characterful, food-led site in the heart of Dunham Massey, known for quality, consistency and warm hospitality. More restaurant-driven in its approach, yet with beer proudly at the heart of everything it does as part of the JW Lees family, it blends premium dining with a strong, well-curated drinks offer.
The site features two dedicated function spaces, hosting small weddings, birthdays and private celebrations, alongside a large beer garden that thrives during the busy summer months. With a loyal following and strong year-round appeal, it’s a high-standard business requiring confident leadership and attention to detail. Due to its rural location in Dunham Massey, applicants will require their own transport.
Your Role: As Assistant Manager, you’ll support the General Manager in leading a busy, premium food-focused operation with a strong drinks trade and a reputation for exceptional guest experiences. You’ll play a key role in delivering outstanding service across the bar, restaurant and function spaces — ensuring every visit, event and celebration reflects The Rope & Anchor’s standards for quality and hospitality.
With fresh, high-quality food at the heart of the business — complemented by a strong beer offer and seasonal garden trade — you’ll help drive standards, consistency and commercial performance across multiple revenue streams, including private events and summer peak trading. This role is ideal for someone looking to step up within a quality-led setting, refining their management skills while broadening their experience in a standout, multi-faceted site within the Inns & Hotels division.
What we offer our Assistant Managers:
- Competitive pay plus cash tips and tronc (that’s your card tips that are paid into your bank)
- Annual profit share bonus, ensuring you share in the success of the company
- 30% discount on food and drink across our pubs, inns and hotels for you and friends and family
- 50% off food when on shift
- Discounted stays in our hotels and inns
- 24 hour confidential wellbeing support, plus counselling provided by the Licenced Trade Charity
- Great opportunities to grow in your role and progress your career with our internal and external development programmes
- Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption policies
- Access to JW BenefitHub, giving you access to a huge range of high street and online discounts
- No late-night shifts; the latest closing time is 10:00pm
What an Assistant Manager does at JW Lees:
- Get the best from your team. Leading by example, offering great service and motivating the people around you.
- Be an expert in communication and be passionate about making every customer visit memorable.
- You will be a key support for the General Manager, taking the helm when they are not around and taking the lead on some areas of the business.
- Take ownership of problems and be commercially aware.
- You will have previous leadership experience within hospitality or retail and be keen to learn and grow in your role.
