We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Estimator to join our team, primarily based in our office, with occasional visits to sites or client offices to assess conditions, requirements, and logistics. The core purpose of this role, for which a knowledge of steel would be advantageous, is to prepare accurate and competitive quotations for a wide range of projects including structural steelwork, staircases, general metalwork, and architectural metalwork. This is a key position that supports the successful delivery of projects by ensuring all proposals are based on clear, practical, and cost-effective solutions.
Ideally, we are seeking a candidate with some experience of cost estimating, working on structural steelwork, metal staircases or general metalwork projects to join our team and develop further skills and experience. Alternatively, you could be a CAD Draughtsman, or an experienced Fabricator with an understanding of structural steelwork, metal staircase or general metalwork, looking to move your career in a new direction. We would be happy to offer the training to help you make that change.
This role requires a high level of client and supplier interaction therefore you will need to be presentable, knowledgeable and well spoken.
Key responsibilities:- Produce quotations for projects based on information supplied by clients
- Compose suitable quotation letters
- Attend site or client offices
- Attend pre, mid and post tender meetings and pre-start meetings
- Participate in Company design meetings after orders to pass on project knowledge to the design team
- Re-price changes on projects
- Site surveys
- Co-ordinate with clients on smaller scale projects
- Materials buying of specialist items
- Produce method statements and risk assessments
- Good organisational skills
- Willingness to work within estimating or project costing in a steelworks or metalworks environment
- Methodical style of working
- Good Microsoft skills including Excel
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
