Role Description

This is a full‑time, on‑site Maintenance Engineer role based in Kilkeel. The Maintenance Engineer will carry out routine inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on mechanical and electrical equipment used in seafood processing and handling. Daily tasks include responding to breakdowns, diagnosing faults, replacing parts, and ensuring minimal disruption to production. The role involves implementing preventive maintenance schedules, maintaining accurate maintenance records, and complying with health, safety, and food hygiene regulations. The Maintenance Engineer will collaborate with production teams to identify improvement opportunities, support equipment upgrades or installations, and ensure all work is completed safely and efficiently.

Qualifications

  • Strong skills in Equipment Maintenance and Maintenance & Repair, with the ability to diagnose faults and restore equipment to safe working condition.
  • Proven experience in Maintenance Engineering, ideally within manufacturing, processing, or a similar industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of Preventive Maintenance practices, including planning, scheduling, and documenting routine service activities.
  • Competence in Electrical Maintenance, including fault‑finding, basic wiring, and working safely with electrical systems and control panels.
  • Relevant technical qualification or apprenticeship in engineering, electrical, mechanical, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, with a proactive approach to risk assessment and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and manuals, use hand and power tools safely, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with flexibility to support shift work, call‑outs, or overtime when operational needs require.
  • Experience in food processing, fisheries, or a similar hygienic production environment is an advantage.
