Responsible for the hands-on operational management, leadership and performance of several Roomzzz Aparthotels in Manchester totalling 258 rooms over three sites.
Based in our business lounge at Roomzzz Manchester Victoria but on site presence will be expected at our other two close by sites.
Working closely with site Managers and their teams, the Manchester Area Manager will ensure consistent delivery of brand standards, guest experience, people performance, compliance and commercial results across all properties.
The role will maintain a strong and visible presence across the hotels, providing practical operational support, coaching and direction, stepping into day-to-day hotel operations when required, and supporting the Head of Operations with the delivery of wider company objectives.
We are seeking a dynamic and commercially focused Area Hotel Manager to lead the hotels operations and drive its transformation into a sustainable and profitable business!
Main Duties
- Provide hands-on operational leadership and support across all Manchester hotels, maintaining a regular and visible presence at each property.
- Work closely with Key Managers on the day-to-day running of the hotels, supporting operational priorities and stepping in directly where additional management support is required.
- Ensure each property is appropriately managed and resourced, supporting rota planning, management cover and short-notice operational requirements where necessary.
- Coach, develop and performance manage hotel teams setting clear expectations and supporting them to build capable, engaged and accountable teams.
- Assess hotel operations, leadership, team cohesion and individual performance through regular site visits, one-to-ones, meetings and operational reviews.
- Drive a consistent guest experience across the Manchester area by reviewing guest feedback and satisfaction measures, identifying trends and ensuring appropriate actions are implemented.
- Coach managers and team members to anticipate, identify and resolve issues affecting the guest experience, including service delivery, housekeeping, maintenance and facilities.
- Champion, audit and implement Roomzzz brand standards, standard operating procedures and best practice consistently across all three properties.
- Conduct and oversee regular health & safety, fire safety, security and compliance checks and audits, ensuring actions are completed within agreed timescales and statutory/company requirements are met.
- Work with Hotel teams and the Head of Operations to monitor key performance indicators, identify emerging trends, areas of risk and opportunities for improvement.
- Support delivery of financial targets through effective cost control, labour management, purchasing discipline, revenue awareness and identification of opportunities to improve operating performance.
- Review operational controls and hotel administration, ensuring company processes, deadlines and reporting requirements are consistently completed to the required standard.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, training, succession planning and development across the Manchester hotels, helping to build a strong pipeline of future managers and leaders.
- Support Head of Operations and HR with employee relations matters, including investigations, grievances, disciplinary matters, absence management and performance concerns, in line with company procedures.
- Provide positive and constructive feedback to Hotel teams, agree improvement actions and escalate or take appropriate formal action where performance standards are not met.
- Promote effective communication and collaboration between the three Manchester hotels, sharing resources, knowledge and best practice where this benefits the operation.
- Build strong working relationships with central support functions and external contractors to ensure operational issues are resolved promptly and effectively.
- Interact positively with guests and team members during hotel visits, actively seeking feedback and using it to support continuous improvement.
- Support hotel openings, refurbishments, projects, major events or other operational initiatives within the Manchester area and wider group where required.
- Act as a senior operational point of escalation for the Manchester hotels, including serious guest issues, operational incidents and out-of-hours matters where appropriate.
Skills & Experience
- Strong operational hotel or aparthotel management experience, ideally within a multi-site or area management environment.
- A minimum of 5 years' of progressive hotel operations, management and multi-unit leadership experience.
- BA in Business Management, Hospitality or a related field
- Proven ability to lead, coach and develop managers and operational teams.
- A valid driving licence would be an advantage
- A hands-on leadership style with the confidence and willingness to support directly within hotel operations when required.
- Excellent guest service skills and a strong understanding of how to drive guest satisfaction and service recovery.
- Good commercial awareness, with experience of labour control, cost management, budgets and operational performance measures.
- Strong understanding of hotel health & safety, compliance and risk management requirements.
- Experience of managing employee relations and performance matters in conjunction with HR.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence, challenge and build effective working relationships.
- Highly organised, able to prioritise and manage competing demands across multiple properties.
- Confident using hotel systems, Microsoft Office and other relevant IT software packages.
- Proactive, solutions-focused and comfortable making decisions in a fast-paced operational environment.
