Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway (RH&DR) , one of the UK’s most iconic heritage railways, is seeking a passionate and dedicated
Non-Executive Director
with finance qualifications to join its Board. This voluntary role offers the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the future of this historic railway, which has been a cherished part of the local community since 1927.
As a Non-Executive Director, you will help steer the RH&DR towards a strong future as it approaches its 100th anniversary, ensuring it continues to thrive as both a key local attraction and a member of the national Heritage Railway Association.
About the RH&DR:
The RH&DR operates a 15-inch gauge railway, offering an enchanting journey through the Romney Marsh, with a rich history of miniature engineering and a collection of meticulously crafted locomotives and rolling stock. The railway plays a vital role in the local visitor economy, operating regular services that appeal to a wide range of visitors and hosting a variety of events that celebrate both heritage and modernity.
What We’re Looking For The RH&DR Board is keen to complement its current team with an individual who brings expertise and fresh perspectives. You will have a finance qualification, one which is appropriate to taking the board lead for strategic financial oversight. You will preferably have had experience at board level in an SME and/or a leisure and tourism business.
Key Responsibilities
Attend regular Board meetings (usually on Saturdays) to contribute strategic advice and decision-making
Support the growth and sustainability of the RH&DR through active involvement in key areas such as fundraising, community engagement, and business development
Collaborate with fellow directors and the General Manager to ensure the long-term success of the railway
Provide governance and oversight, helping the RH&DR remain a vital part of the local and national heritage community
