We are seeking an experienced and driven Groundworks Contracts Manager to oversee multiple groundwork and civil engineering projects across Bedfordshire, Luton, and surrounding areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing projects from pre-construction through to completion, ensuring delivery is achieved safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Key Responsibilities
- Manage multiple groundwork and civil engineering contracts simultaneously.
- Oversee site teams, Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers, and subcontractors.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and to client expectations.
- Monitor project performance, costs, profitability, and resource requirements.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, local authorities, and supply chain partners.
- Attend client meetings, progress reviews, and site visits.
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
- Support procurement activities and subcontractor management.
- Review and approve project programmes, method statements, risk assessments, and site documentation.
- Identify and manage project risks and opportunities.
- Work closely with the commercial team to manage valuations, variations, and final accounts.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and development support to operational teams.
Requirements
Essential
- Proven experience as a Contracts Manager within the groundworks, civil engineering, or infrastructure sector.
- Strong understanding of residential groundworks, roads and sewers, drainage, foundations, and associated infrastructure works.
- Excellent project management and programme management skills.
- Commercial awareness with experience managing project budgets and costs.
- Strong leadership and people management capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple contracts and priorities effectively.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
- HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
- SMSTS qualification.
- CSCS Card.
- First Aid qualification.
- Experience working with residential developers and principal contractors.
