Mechanical Estimator Location: Newcastle upon Tyne Salary: £50,000 + £5,500 Car Allowance + Benefits Hours: Full Time, Monday to Friday The Role We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join a growing construction and facilities team based in Newcastle upon Tyne. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate and competitive estimates, managing the tender process from enquiry through to submission, and supporting the business in securing profitable work across a varied project portfolio. Working closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal teams, you will play a key role in developing tender strategies, identifying opportunities for value engineering, and ensuring all submissions meet both technical and commercial requirements. Key Responsibilities Manage the full tendering process from initial enquiry through to final submission, acting as the main point of contact between the business, clients and professional teams. Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation to prepare accurate cost plans, take-offs, Bills of Quantities and detailed estimates. Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations, ensuring competitive pricing and compliance with project requirements. Develop labour, plant and material rates while identifying risks, opportunities, value engineering options and cost-saving initiatives. Coordinate with internal and external design teams to ensure designs are sufficiently developed for accurate pricing and successful tender submissions. Produce tender reports and presentations for internal approval and client submission. Support commercial activities including cost analysis, project valuations, variation pricing, final accounts and contractual claims where required. Ensure compliance with company procedures, quality standards, health and safety requirements, and industry best practice. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying efficiencies, supporting teamwork and maintaining high standards of customer service. Requirements Mechanical estimating experience within the construction, building services or facilities management sector. Strong understanding of tendering procedures, contract documentation and cost planning. Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. Experience obtaining and analysing supplier and subcontractor quotations. Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills. Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels. Highly organised, detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple deadlines. Proficient in Microsoft Office and estimating software packages. Knowledge of mechanical and electrical services would be advantageous.
