Overview
James Marks Academy Trust is looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Sports Teacher to join our small Trust based at James Marks Academy. You will inspire, engage and ensure that every young person has access to physical education. The cohort may include pupils with high anxiety and ASC, for whom a traditional SEMH school would be deemed inappropriate. The new building has a fitness studio, hall and outdoor space which can accommodate a range of physical activities.
The role is to teach Physical Education as a specialist. The successful candidate will teach concepts via a range of different sports and activities. This is a fantastic opportunity for an early careers teacher in a supportive yet challenging environment to develop their skills. You will be part of a dynamic and experienced team of professional staff and contribute to the school’s development.
Responsibilities
- Enhance pupil self-esteem through a supportive, encouraging, yet challenging approach to learning, employing a wide variety of teaching styles suited to individuals, small groups, and whole classes.
- Prepare, teach, mark and maintain records of attendance, progress, behaviour and achievement in accordance with school policies; use information to raise standards of learning with target grades set and reviewed regularly with pupils.
- Take initiative in putting forward ideas and assist in the development of aspects of the school.
- Work collaboratively with other staff as part of teams, departments and cross-curricular groups; contribute talents and skills to new initiatives, policies, resources and schemes of work.
- Establish high expectations of positive pupil behaviour and appearance.
About You / Qualifications
- A degree in a relevant subject and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to aspire and motivate pupils.
- Excellent organisational skills, resilience and the ability to work well under pressure.
- A warm, empathetic approach and a belief that every pupil can succeed.
- Confident use of ICT to support teaching, assessment and classroom organisation.
- A commitment to professional development and innovative practice.

Logistics
Location: Welwyn Garden City, with occasional travel to Radlett and Hemel Hempstead sites; mileage paid for travel between sites.
