Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

• Take full responsibility for the day-to-day management and performance of the transport and warehouse operation.
• Ensure operational activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with customer requirements.
• Lead and develop the site management team, promoting accountability, collaboration and high performance.
• Monitor operational KPIs and service levels, implementing improvements where required.
• Drive continuous improvement across transport, warehousing and associated operational processes.
• Take full ownership of the site's P&L, including budgets, cost control, revenue performance and profitability.
• Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising service delivery.
• Improve labour productivity, fleet utilisation and operational efficiency.
• Effectively manage agency expenditure, overtime and other operational costs.
• Support business growth through the development of existing customer accounts and the successful implementation of additional transport and warehousing volumes.

Customer & Service Delivery

• Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers and key stakeholders.
• Ensure contractual service levels and customer expectations are consistently achieved.
• Proactively identify opportunities to improve service delivery and operational performance.
• Work closely with senior management to support commercial opportunities and the wider business strategy.

Compliance & Health & Safety

• Ensure full compliance with DVSA requirements, UK transport legislation and relevant industry regulations.
• Maintain high standards of health, safety and food safety compliance across the operation.
• Oversee driver compliance, vehicle standards and associated transport requirements.
• Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
• Ensure the operation remains prepared for internal and external audits.

Skills & Experience

• Transport Manager CPC qualification (National or International).
• Proven senior management experience within a combined transport and warehousing operation.
• Strong background in chilled, FMCG or high-volume distribution environments.
• Demonstrable experience managing operational budgets and full P&L responsibility.
• Proven ability to improve operational performance, control costs and deliver sustainable efficiencies.
• Excellent knowledge of UK transport legislation, driver compliance, tachograph regulations and health and safety requirements.
• Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify opportunities for operational growth.
• Excellent leadership, communication and people management skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure within a fast-paced, time-sensitive logistics environment.
• Previous experience within chilled or temperature-controlled logistics.
• Background in retail distribution, RDC operations or contract logistics.
• Experience managing large-scale, multi-functional operations.
• Knowledge of BRCGS standards and associated food safety requirements.
