The Role:
As Commercial Executive, you will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day activities of the Commercial Department, identifying potential business opportunities and assisting with the development and implementation of commercial projects.
Working closely with the Commercial Director and operational teams, you will gain an understanding of our existing transport network, identifying opportunities to improve vehicle utilisation, reduce empty running and develop relationships with prospective customers.
The position offers a varied mix of customer interaction, commercial research, project coordination, reporting and administration, providing valuable exposure to the wider commercial activities of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Development & Research
Research and identify prospective customers and new business opportunities that align with the company's target markets and existing transport network.
Work closely with operational teams to identify gaps in network capacity, potential return-load opportunities and areas for commercial development.
Undertake targeted prospect research and initial customer contact to establish potential business opportunities.
Present findings, potential leads and recommendations to the Commercial Director.
Support the development of new and existing customer relationships, maintaining professional and effective communication.
Customer Relationship Management & Administration
Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer information databases, including contact details, commercial information, review periods and follow-up activities.
Assist with customer enquiries, communications and general commercial correspondence.
Ensure commercial documentation, records and customer information are maintained to a high standard.
Coordinate meetings, customer reviews and follow-up actions as required.
Build positive working relationships with internal departments and external stakeholders.
Project Coordination & Implementation
Support the planning, coordination and implementation of commercial projects and new customer requirements.
Work alongside operational teams to ensure commercial opportunities and customer implementations are effectively communicated and progressed.
Monitor project activities, maintain accurate records and provide updates on progress.
Identify potential challenges and contribute practical solutions to support successful project delivery.
Reporting & Commercial Support
Prepare accurate reports, presentations and commercial information as requested by the Commercial Director and Senior Management Team.
Analyse relevant operational and commercial information to help identify trends, opportunities and areas for improvement.
Utilise IT systems, spreadsheets and databases to support commercial activities and reporting.
Provide wider administrative and organisational support to the Commercial Department as required.
About You
We are looking for a professional, organised and ambitious individual who can demonstrate a strong understanding of the logistics industry and a genuine interest in developing a career within commercial management.
Proven experience working within the transport or logistics industry.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate confidently and professionally at all levels.
An articulate, personable and professional approach when dealing with customers and colleagues.
Strong organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
A calm, methodical approach to problem-solving, with the ability to remain composed when managing competing priorities.
Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Ability to research, organise and present information clearly and accurately.
Experience supporting or coordinating projects, processes or operational improvements.
Confidence working independently, using initiative and managing multiple responsibilities.
A proactive attitude, with a genuine desire to learn, develop and progress into more senior commercial positions.
Willingness to undertake national travel when required.
Previous experience within a temperature-controlled transport or distribution environment.
Exposure to commercial operations, account management or business development.
Understanding of transport network utilisation, vehicle capacity and opportunities to reduce empty running.
Experience using CRM systems or maintaining customer databases.
Experience supporting new customer onboarding, operational implementations or commercial projects.
Previous involvement in preparing management reports or presenting information to senior stakeholders.
