This role is to support the Supervisor by taking ownership of a depot by acting as the main focal point for all preventive and corrective activities within the depot and any other matters that may arise. Responsibilities include:

  • Proactive involvement in the Company’s HSQE management processes.
  • Submit near observation/miss reports and encourage others in the team to do so.
  • Support investigations into observation/near misses, accidents or incidents.
  • Conduct regular safety walks.
  • Actively encourage continuous improvement activities for both maintenance and procedures.
  • Support engineers involved in these activities.
  • Attend and participate in meetings with the customer where necessary.
  • By exception, undertake fault finding and repair using appropriate technical information (e.g. Technical drawings and fault finding guides).
  • Sample checking of relevant documentation for all work carried out in order to accurately record activities that are recorded for the company and the customer.
  • By exception, participate in 24/7 shift working including callout when required.
  • Support the Team Leader in control and motivation of the engineers.
  • Monitor fleet maintenance for compliance against the schedule daily.
  • Utilise engineers to control site spares.
  • Conduct a monthly rolling stock check against HANA.
  • Ensure all site employees are complying with the Rolls-Royce Quality and Environmental standards.
  • Assist the Supervisor in the development of risk assessments, safe systems of work and best practice for workshop processes and tasks.
  • Ensure that mtu used areas of the depot are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness.
  • Providing technical support to site employees as and when required.
  • Conduct quality and competency inspections as necessary. Take appropriate action for shortfalls.
  • Maintain SkillStation for those within their remit.
  • Ensure that all special tools and equipment are kept in good order and that repair requirements are actioned.
  • Take regular reports from the ATC to monitor tool usage and report back to the Supervisor as appropriate.
  • To manage Mitchell’s engineers in terms of first site visit to ensure they are competent and future site visits to ensure they are up to date with the latest internal briefs.

Position Qualifications:

  • NVQ 3 minimum in engineering related subject.
  • From an Engineering background.
  • Line management of employees and relationship building with stakeholders is important.
  • Engineering knowledge of diesel engines is desirable but not essential.
  • Knowledge of the rail industry desirable.
  • A self-starter who works safely and methodically.
  • Outstanding safety awareness.
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly XLS, Word and email.
  • On the job training will be provided for SAP, MTU Business Portal.

  • Proactive and with good initiative, enthusiastic person, organising skills and a flexible attitude.
  • Able to demonstrate competence in leading a team.
  • Works well with others.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships with customers and key stakeholders.
