An excellent opportunity for a Service Design Lead with Rolls Royce Submarines has become available. As the Services Design Lead, you will be working predominantly with IT delivery teams and supporting the Service Design Architect in developing, refining, and assuring IT service designs to ITIL best practices and optimising for our multivendor IT support Ecosystem.

As the Service Design Lead, your role defines, agrees, and validates service support models that align with the organisation’s established service support framework. The Service Design Lead assures service design artefacts, ensures compliance with agreed support models, and enables smooth transitions into BAU (Business as Usual) IT Support operations. A key part of your role will be supporting Service Transition Leads by contributing to risk identification, assurance, and mitigation activities associated with transitioning IT services into BAU support. You will be contributing to continual service improvement and supports enhancements to ITIL-based service design processes.

What you will be doing:

  • Supporting the Service Design Architect in developing and enhancing IT service designs and the broader service design framework.
  • Defining, documenting, and agreeing service support models for new or changed IT services, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s service support offering and ITIL best practices.
  • Performing assurance reviews of service design artefacts—including support models, SLAs/OLAs, contract reviews, operational documentation, and transition materials to ensure quality, completeness, and alignment with agreed support models.
  • Working collaboratively with project managers, business analysts, and delivery teams to embed service support considerations early in the project lifecycle (“shift-left”).
  • Supporting Service Transition Leads by helping identify, assure, and manage risks associated with transitioning services into BAU IT operations.
  • Supporting service testing and validation for ITIL process compliance and operational readiness.
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance service design processes, artefact standards, and support model frameworks.
  • Building strong relationships across IT Project Delivery, Service Transition, Ecosystem Operations, Architecture teams, and 3rd Party Vendors to ensure alignment of service support requirements.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • ITIL Foundation certification required; higher-level ITIL certifications preferred.
  • Experience in IT service management, service design, service transition.
  • Strong understanding of ITIL best practices for service design, transition, and operational readiness.
  • Experience working within IT project delivery environments, ideally in complex and multi-vendor settings.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines, you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
