We have an exciting opportunity for a Design/Development Engineer to join our Vessels and Installations Team within the Rolls-Royce Submarines business.
As the Design/Development Engineer you will get involved in all stages of product development, from feasibility and concept, through design, build, development, through full lifecycle. You will have the chance to see your ideas become reality in a fast-paced environment, where your problem solving, and engineering skills will be challenged and developed.
As part of the Future Programmes Component engineering team, the Vessels and Installations Team develop pressure vessels, pipework installations bespoke repair, inspection and maintenance capabilities, against challenging safety constraints (to ASME III/VIII Standards), in support of the Royal Navy's nuclear submarine fleet.

You'll be developing fit-for-purpose, innovative engineering solutions, from concept to implementation, against customer and governance requirements, whilst adhering to stringent time, cost and quality constraints.
- Creating Full Life Cycle Design solutions through concept, design, manufacture, operation and disposal.
- Integrating cross-discipline engineering concepts, collaborating across manufacturing engineering, simulation, materials, testing, and supply chain functions.
- Documenting and verifying information against sound mechanical engineering practices and references.
- Publishing safety and technical reports which are subjected to customer and regulatory scrutiny.
Design/Development Engineers, Project Design Engineers or Senior Design Engineers with experience of Pressure Vessel, Pipework or Boilers from industries such as Civil Nuclear, Marine, Defence, Aerospace, Petro-Chemical, Oil & Gas, Special Purpose Machinery, Automotive, Pharmaceutical and Food Processing would likely have transferable experience into this role.
- Pressure Vessel Design experience (ASME Section III/ASME VIII/ PD5500).
- CAD Design Software experience.
- A Mechanical Engineering related degree, or equivalent experience.
For more than 60 years Rolls-Royce Submarines has designed, supplied and supported the nuclear propulsion plant, providing power for all UK Royal Navy nuclear submarines.
