An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Lab Engineer to join our team in Derby. As a NDE Lab Engineer, you will use your knowledge and expertise in the development and application of NDT Techniques across the whole product lifecycle. The essential purpose is to maintain and manage an acceptable risk in NDT Supply Chain of Rolls-Royce by performing process audit/control/approval and consultancy, as well as future technology development for efficiency, quality and cost reduction driven goals.

You will be working in the NDE Central Laboratory which is part of the Global Materials Engineering function which sits under Manufacturing Engineering and Materials organisation for Engineering, Technology & Safety (ET&S). The team supports Civil Aerospace, Business Aviation and Defence Aerospace. The NDE Laboratory covers the full lifecycle of Rolls-Royce engine products covering design, development, manufacture and service. As part of the team, we also provide advice and guidance on NDE matters to other engineering disciplines.

What you will be doing:

  • You’ll analyse factual information from multiple sources and identify effective solutions applying your technical knowledge, expertise, and engineering judgement.
  • Provide Technical support and consultancy to product development for future engine programmes.
  • Responsible for supporting, maintaining and improving our internal and external supply chain for NDE processes.
  • Develop NDE future technologies to improve efficiency, product quality and cost reduction.
  • Auditing and risk assessing our external supply chain to our NDT procedures and processes.
  • Represent the company with suppliers and customers.
  • Actively promote, encourage and support identification and implementation of continuous improvement.
  • Part of global NDE organisation, internally and externally, to drive changes and advancement.
  • Mentoring NDT Degree Apprentices, from first year to completion of scheme.

  • Candidates with NDT expertise in other methods, sectors, or areas are also encouraged to apply.
  • Degree level qualification or above in a relevant technical discipline (e.g. NDE, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics), or equivalent technical capability based on experience.
  • Strongly motivated to achieve results, with a high degree of professionalism, honesty and integrity.
  • Willingness to be flexible and multi-task as part of a team and contribute to company objectives.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, able to prioritise workloads with competing deadlines.
  • Solve problems through evaluative judgements.
  • Analyse factual information from multiple sources, interpret results and identify effective solutions by applying their own technical knowledge, expertise, and engineering judgement.

It’s desirable if the candidate(s) hold Professional qualifications (e.g. Level 3 or working towards Level 3) in relevant NDE methods (including but not limited to Contact/Immersion Ultrasonics); Or working experience in Aerospace manufacturing environment; Or Chartered status or other similar accreditation.
