We are looking for a Manufacturing Lab Technologist to join the team in Derby on a full‑time permanent basis.

The Role: As a Lab Technologist in the Repair Special Process Group, you will work closely with Repair Design, Repair Implementation, and MRO teams. You will support all civil large engines repaired at overhaul bases and specialist vendors, both domestically and internationally, with occasional travel within the UK and abroad. The group maintains overhaul processes and material manuals, creates new processes to support emerging repair technologies, and ensures vendor methods align with relevant standards.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure process compliance with national and international standards by generating and maintaining overhaul process manuals.
- Interpret design, engineering requirements and other standards to keep shop applications compliant.
- Approve process data cards, procedures and methods of manufacture for overhaul bases and repair partners.
- Compile and maintain overhaul process and material manuals for all civil large engine programmes, ensuring cost‑effective and high‑quality repairs.
- Collaborate with diverse teams within Rolls‑Royce and external vendors to advance specific processes and resolve manufacturing problems.
- Act as a specialist point of contact for the Product Control Authority, manufacturing engineering team and external vendors to guide method/process changes.
- Review technical reports, including microstructural evaluations, and accept test samples from multiple special processes to ensure repair requirements are met.
- Drive continuous improvement and control activities to reduce process variation, identifying opportunities for data capture and process centring.
- Support the selection, justification and publication of new materials and processes into the repair manuals.
Basic and Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree level qualification in Materials Science, Metallurgy or an appropriate engineering discipline, or evidence of relevant industry experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Data‑driven approach to problem solving.
