Working within the Manufacturing Engineering process team in the Bristol Turbines Facility – Machining (BTF-M), you will be responsible and accountable for the laser drilling and part marking machining processes that manufacture high pressure (HP) nozzle guide vanes across the entire Rolls-Royce product portfolio (Civil, Business Aviation and Defence). You will work across multiple platforms that use different laser drilling technology. This process is critical to the yield and delivery rate performance of the facility. This role will support current production and improving current production whilst developing machining programs and processes for future new product introduction.
What you will be doing:
- Quality – Operate a culture of zero defects within the organisation and specifically your process. Work with all functions at all levels to improve yield, drive product right first time and reduce risks. Ensure compliance to all relevant company, legislative and technical policies and standards including Rolls-Royce Management System (RRMS) and Export Control and Intellectual Property requirements.
- Develop Capability – Develop, implement, maintain and continuously improve manufacturing processes which are capable of meeting and continue to meet requirements for safety, quality, cost, delivery rate and lead time. Inclusive of future capability for new product introduction. Capture, analyse and use data to demonstrate and improve the current and future capability of manufacturing processes.
- Technical Communication – Create and maintain elements of the Technical Package (manufacturing instructions, programs, tooling) which clearly define the manufacturing process and control them which effectively communicate the manufacturing process to shop floor personnel.
- Collaboration – Work with production operations and shop floor personnel to ensure technical aspects of manufacturing processes and digital systems are understood and being complied with.
- Digital – Drive the modernisation of manufacturing process to fully utilise data and capitalise on new digital systems.
Position qualifications:
- Professionally Qualified Engineer (e.g. UK minimum HND/foundation degree or other national equivalent) or equivalent hands-on experience. Recognised national or international engineering accreditation (e.g. UK Eng or CEng) is desirable but not essential.
Preferred requirements:
- Highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills and the drive to deliver within a fast pace, challenging, high volume production environment.
- Practical experience in manufacturing engineering within a production facility including delivery of improvement projects.
- Previous experience in CAD modelling and CAM programming for 5 axis CNC machines as well as hands-on experience applying the programmes (training available). Experience with on-machine probing is desirable but not essential.
- Practical knowledge and application of lean manufacturing methods including six sigma tools, PFMEAs, control plans and KPIVs/KPOVs.
- Experience of manufacture of nozzle guide vanes (or similar) is desirable
- An understanding of laser processing and the metallurgy impacts is desirable but not essential.
