Job Description

Job Title: Manufacturing Engineering Technical Lead

Working Pattern: Monday-Thursday 08.00-16.45 Friday 08.00-12.00

Working location: Winsford

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing Engineering Technical Lead to join us at Rolls-Royce Distributed Generation Systems (DGS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Rolls-Royce based in Winsford UK. Reporting directly to the DGS Head of Engineering, you will be part of the Switchboard value stream team, supporting both existing and future customers across our growing portfolio.

As a Manufacturing Engineering Technical Lead, you will, alongside the DGS Head of Engineering, lead the Manufacturing Engineering activity at DGS including coaching and prioritising the activity of a small team of other Manufacturing Engineers. The Manufacturing Engineers are responsible to ensure Switchboard assembly operations can be delivered smoothly, ensuring that key project and delivery commitments are met. The core remit for the role is to deliver effective assembly methods to the operations team and resolve emergent technical issues to keep products safe and delivery milestones met.

What you will be doing

Manufacturing Engineers within Rolls-Royce continuously seek to expand their knowledge and experience to increase effectiveness in undertaking existing and new activities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Safety – Ensure that manufacturing processes are in full compliance to HS&E standards and are capable of delivering a product that achieves and sustains the design intent. Rigorously raise, investigate and resolve HS&E and Product Safety related issues.
  • Quality – Drive a culture of zero defects within the organisation. Works with all functions to reduce risk and drive product Right First Time through strong Design for Assembly/ Design for Manufacturing, strong process planning and swift and effect problem resolution. Ensure compliance to all relevant company, legislative and technical policies and standards.
  • Delivery – Delivery focused mindset. Work with cross-functional teams to ensure the manufacturing processes and digital systems are effective and support the operational requirements of the facility. Plan and manage activities including team schedule, resources and costs, gaining buy-off and communicating current status to relevant stakeholders. Ensure issues and risks are resolved to meet project timescales.
  • Capability – Develop, implement, validate, maintain and continuously improve manufacturing processes and digital systems. Capture, analyse and use data to demonstrate and improve the current and future capability of manufacturing processes. Identify, document and share best practice, including participation in relevant Communities of Practice.
  • Develop Talent – Responsible for self-development to meet the required competencies for the role. Continuously seek to expand knowledge and experience to increase effectiveness in undertaking existing and new activities. Provides coaching and technical support to the team and contributes with the DGS Head of Engineering to the development of the Manufacturing Engineering function.

Key Experiences and any Qualifications preferred for this role:

  • Professionally Qualified Engineer (e.g. UK minimum HND/foundation degree or other national equivalent)
  • Recognised national or international engineering accreditation (e.g. UK IEng or CEng) where available
  • General understanding of manufacturing processes relevant to either an electronics or assembly industry
  • General awareness of Manufacturing Systems and enabling software tools relevant to the business
  • Understanding of technical processes relevant to their role including First Article Inspection, production planning and Design for Assembly/ Design for Manufacturing
