Laboratory Technologist

Inchinnan/Onsite

Full Time

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Laboratory Technologist to join our Team in Inchinnan.

In this role you will ensure compliance to processes and standards as well as control and develop the special processes required to support the manufacturing of components.

You will ensure the engineering specifications are satisfied for new part introduction and ongoing manufacture. In addition, you will also be responsible for continuous improvement, process compliance & control, troubleshooting, detailed investigations, and non-conformance assessment.

As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What You Will Be Doing

In this role you will be ensuring process compliance to National and International Standards through both the generation of shop floor instructions and the participation in audit procedures. Interpreting design and engineering requirements and ensuring shop applications remain in compliance, as well as:

  • Approval of process data cards/procedures, process or stage drawings and Methods of Manufacture for both domestically manufactured parts and for parts manufactured in the external supply network.
  • Maintaining operator training and qualification requirements for carrying specific Special processes including identification of changes to specification requirements that require subsequent operator training.
  • Compilation of component specific Rationalised Quality Specifications (RQSC’s) and Technical Instructions for all parts on site.
  • Leading mixed teams to advance specific processes and/or resolve manufacturing problems. The latter may use the Green belt or Black belt process.
  • Microstructural evaluation and acceptance of test samples from Titanium, Steel, & Nickel alloys and Steels components or test pieces at forging, heat treatment or post machining operations
  • Driving continuous improvement and control activities to reduce process variation including identifying opportunities for data capture and processes centralised.
  • Supporting the selection, justification, acquisition, and commissioning of new processing equipment.

To be successful in this role you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Qualified to degree level in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemical Processing, or an appropriate Engineering discipline and be working towards or have already achieved Chartered Engineer status or equivalent experience.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills are essential coupled with a data driven approach to problem solving.
  • Knowledge of NUCAP/ Nadcap Process would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Chemical Processing and Surface Enhancement processes is advantageous.
  • Thermal Heat Treatment and Metallic Joining Process would be advantageous.
