Job Description

Job Title: Junior Health Physics Technician (RPE maintenance) (Submarines) – 6 month secondment

Working Pattern: Full time

Working location: Derby (Raynesway)

What you will be doing:

You will work as part of a team of operational Health Physics Technicians at Raynesway within the Safety, Security and Licensee Authority (SSLA) business you will deliver the SEIP improvements regarding the provision, maintenance and cleanliness of RPE used across the contact facilities

Responsibilities:

With this exciting opportunity you will get a chance to be involved with the following:

  • Undertake workplace monitoring for radiological hazards, with a primary responsibility of monitoring Respiratory Protection Equipment (RPE) and the immediate work area used for maintaining these masks.
  • Keep accurate records of monitoring undertaken and create reports to identify trends in results as required.
  • Ensure radiation protection control measures are adequately implemented at the point of work through adherence to written procedures, safe systems of work and local rules.
  • Carry out radiological monitoring equipment calibrations and daily checks prior to use as required.
  • Maintain RPE masks in accordance with written procedures and manufacturer\’s instructions and keep accurate records to demonstrably show full adherence.
  • Ensure provision of RPE masks support operational demand and emergency arrangements requirements.
  • Undertake local investigations and feedback to the HSE team if abnormal events or defects arise.

  • Relevant qualifications and experience (desirable) – NVQ Level 2 in Radiation Protection or similar is preferred, with training offered for the right candidate; experience in maintaining RPE masks is also a plus, with training provided.
  • Strong communication skills – Able to ask questions, clarify doubts, and explain work clearly to colleagues at all levels.
  • Computer proficiency – Confident using computers for emails, documentation, data trending, and reporting safety observations.
  • Proactive and adaptable – Use initiative to improve procedures and respond effectively to changing work environments.
  • Well-organised with attention to detail – Good time management, accurate record-keeping, and compliance with procedures.
