As the Systems Engineer you will work within Rolls‑Royce Power Systems (RRPS) in Heybridge as part of the NauitIQ Solutions team, working closely with other engineering disciplines to design Integrated Platform Management Systems and Equipment for marine applications.
What You Will Be Doing
- Review and agree high‑level automation requirements including their testability.
- Analyse and translate high‑level requirements into a validated design for automation components.
- Capture applicable design constraints and quality attributes that apply to the component.
- Interface between external and internal customers to elicit and validate all stakeholder requirements, including business, technical customers and partners.
- Design and implement automation designs to meet the high‑level requirements and design constraints/standards.
- Allocate automation requirements to test vehicles defined in the verification plan.
- Create an appropriate Enterprise Architecture solution that serves both business and technical needs.
- Develop, implement, document and maintain policies, procedures, associated guidelines, tools and training as required.
- Creation of documents such as Functional Design Specification (FDS), Control and Monitoring Description (CMD), Test Specifications and Operator/Maintenance Manuals.
- Experience in implementing System Safety such as FMEA, FMECA, Risk Analysis, etc.
- Liaise with other disciplines to understand functional performance capabilities of components within the system to facilitate effective component design.
- Set the Systems Engineering and Verification approach for an Engineering Programme through the Configuration Management Plan.
- Clarify and define serial communication interfaces between the Rolls‑Royce Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) and 3rd‑party systems.
- Experience in PLC application software design and an understanding of programming languages such as C/C++, Structured Text (ST) and willingness to learn the WINMON language.
- Experience in Human‑Machine Interface (HMI) design.
Position Qualifications
- Be qualified to Degree level in electrical engineering or similar disciplines or be able to demonstrate equivalent competence and industry experience.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in electrical engineering, designing automation systems and managing projects/programs of increasing complexity.
- Significant domain knowledge and experience of naval or marine automation and control systems.
- Have experience in all stages of a project lifecycle and have been responsible for the delivery of one or more of those stages.
- Be able to work dynamically and respond to evolving objectives and emerging opportunities while working in coordination with a multidisciplinary, energetic team of engineers.

- Knowledge and experience of delivering systems complying with naval and marine standards, specifications and safety standards.
- Good time‑management skills, able to prioritise and execute tasks in a high‑pressure environment.
- Possess good communication, presentation and influencing skills.
