Flex Field Service Representative / Naval Gas Turbines Full Time, Glasgow. Defence deployed services are currently going through a period of growth as our customer fleets increase and support requirements to keep them operating safely expand. Rolls‑Royce Field Service Representatives (FSRs) work in deployed locations, both dockside and onboard, delivering an array of technical advice and field service tasks in support of ship OE commissioning and in‑service maintenance, repair and overhaul.
This role is based at BAES Glasgow, but the individual may also be deployed (often at short notice) to any of our Naval Customer locations globally for fixed term assignments. The ability and desire to work at other deployed locations, either as a standalone Field Service Representative or as part of a multi‑disciplinary team is a key requirement.
You will primarily be responsible for providing support to Rolls‑Royce Naval Gas Turbine equipment commissioning as part of the Type 26 City‑Class frigate build programme, collaborating with the ship builder to minimise disruption and ensure delivery. You will ensure field engineering work scope is delivered, liaising with the BAES customer at multiple levels to collaborate and overcome challenges.
Why Rolls‑Royce? Rolls‑Royce is one of the most enduring and iconic brands in the world and has been at the forefront of innovation for over a century. We design, build and service systems that provide critical power to customers where safety and reliability are paramount. We are proud to be a force for progress, powering, protecting and connecting people everywhere. We want to ensure that the excellence and ingenuity that has shaped our history continues into our future and we need people like you to come and join us on this journey.
You will be joining a deployed services community that works at the heart of naval operations, supporting ships through commissioning, maintenance periods and in‑service requirements. The work is varied and high impact, and you will collaborate closely with customer stakeholders and internal engineering functions to keep mission‑critical assets operating safely and reliably. We’ll provide an environment of caring and belonging where you can be yourself. An inclusive, innovative culture that invests in you, gives you access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities where you can grow your career and make a difference.
What we offer: We offer excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.
What you will be doing:
- Support Type 26 commissioning work of Rolls‑Royce marine gas turbine equipment in accordance with the technical documentation, as well as potentially supporting routine MR&O elsewhere when required.
- Collaboration with the team of Rolls‑Royce FSRs both in Glasgow and Portsmouth to co‑ordinate and deliver customer contracted commissioning or operational support services.
- Travel will often be required, sometimes at short notice, in support of other commissioning activity or ship operation globally.
- Establish and maintain close relationships with all relevant sections of customer organisations and Rolls‑Royce to collaborate on delivery.
- Review engineering changes and their effect on the products in the field, including maintenance manual updates, service bulletins, red tops and so on, ensuring changes are enacted to keep our products operating safely.
An ability to pass a field service medical assessment is required, for the purposes of performing essential tasks safely in challenging environments (e.g. visual inspections of hardware in dark or confined ship engine rooms). All field service staff are required to complete Certified to Operate training and development as part of their extensive induction to the deployed services function.
Who we’re looking for: Being a part of Rolls‑Royce, you’ll know we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference in everything we do. These principles form our values and behaviours and are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities we seek for all roles. In addition, we are looking for:
- A mechanically minded engineer, with an ability to read blueprints, schematics, diagrams and technical manuals to determine methods and sequences of assembly or maintenance.
- Hold a valid driver’s license and a willingness to work away from home during the week as required.
- Knowledge of Rolls‑Royce Marine Gas Turbine products and systems such as MT30 and WR‑21.
- 5 years’ field experience and demonstrated industry experience highly desirable.
- Knowledge of electrical and/or control systems would be extremely beneficial, in lieu of mechanical knowledge.
We are an equal opportunities employer. We are committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives which are crucial to innovation and problem solving. We believe the more diverse perspectives we have, the more successful we’ll be. By building a culture of caring and belonging, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.
