Job Description

Engineering and Technology Summer Internship

Duration : 10 weeks over Summer 2026

Starting salary : £23,600 (pro rata) + £500 joining bonus to support with moving and hybrid working

Location : Glasgow

At Rolls-Royce we are proud to be a business that has truly helped to shape the modern world and are committed to always being a force for progress; powering, protecting and connecting people everywhere.

By joining Rolls-Royce in an Emerging Talent programme, you\’ll have the opportunity to work on world-class solutions, supported by a culture that believes individuality is our greatest strength, and all perspectives, experiences and backgrounds help us innovate and enable our high-performance culture.

We\’re one of few companies with the breadth of technology and expertise to tackle some of the world\’s biggest challenges and on your 10-week internship with us, you\’ll get the chance to experience it first-hand.

What you\’ll be doing:

For more than 60 years Rolls-Royce Submarines has designed, supplied and supported the nuclear propulsion plant, providing safety critical, complex power and propulsion solutions for all UK Royal Navy nuclear submarines. That deep nuclear knowledge means we are ideally placed to explore how this unique form of power can address some of the world\’s biggest problems. As one of our Summer Interns, you could be at the heart of it working on projects focussed on either FPGA design and improving our FPGA development lifecycle or improving our hardware testing infrastructure.

Thanks to a combination of digital learning and on-the-job training, you\’ll build a wealth of new skills with the help of our experts – people who are as invested in your success as you are.

Who we\’re looking for:

  • Preferably a degree with a strong electrical and electronic focus however any STEM subject, or joint honours degrees that combine STEM with subjects like business or economics.
  • A good understanding of Field Programmable Gate Arrays.
  • A willingness to work flexibly and travel between locations: in most cases, you will be able to achieve the scheme requirements in the location you are recruited to, however, we may need you to be flexible and travel between sites during or for your rotational \’gigs\’
  • Being open-minded, curious and agile in your approach to work and career development

We see hybrid working as a way to balance and flex our time between the office, home, or another remote working place. Everyone is expected on site, on average, three days per week. But specific arrangements will vary from role to role and gig to gig. We encourage and support flexible working arrangements where we can.

Our behaviours drive us – we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. We\’ll expect that of you, too.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets we can only progress applications from individuals who are a UK national or, in MoD approved cases, a dual national.

What we offer:

  • 33 days\’ annual leave, including
