Our mission is to deliver clean, affordable energy for all. Our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) provides a British solution to a global energy crisis. We are in pole position to become a world leader in SMRs and the UK’s premier green export technology.
The Component & Structural Integrity Integration team provides technical coordination and governance on the use of codes and standards, ways of working and structural integrity policy and requirements for pressure equipment within the SMR programme. Operating across multiple disciplines including design, manufacturing and safety, the team ensures compliance with nuclear, pressure equipment and international regulatory requirements, supporting both UK delivery and global deployment.
In this context, we are looking for an Engineer – Structural Integrity to support our Lead Engineer – Structural Integrity within a growing integration team. This role is central to developing the rules, requirements, and safety case that ensure the integrity of mechanical pressure boundary components across the full plant, with a focus on the requirements for our components with the highest nuclear safety consequences. This brings together the cross-functional structural integrity case which includes integrating design, stress, material, fabrication, non-destructive examination and quality.
You’ll work closely with design teams, supporting the implementation of requirements and contributing to the structural integrity safety case—playing a key role in ensuring safe, reliable delivery of our SMR programme.
What you’ll be doing
- Developing and maintaining structural integrity requirements and technical guidance for mechanical components.
- Applying cross-disciplinary knowledge (design, materials, analysis, manufacturing, inspection) to ensure component reliability.
- Contributing to structural integrity safety case development, including technical arguments and supporting evidence.
- Supporting design teams to interpret and embed integrity requirements into designs.
- Collaborating with internal teams, external partners, and the supply chain to deliver integrated solutions.
- Supporting regulatory engagement activities through high-quality technical input.
- Managing your own workload to deliver against programme, cost, and quality expectations.
What we’re looking for
As you can see, this is a pivotal role within our engineering function. You’ll bring a structured, analytical mindset, with the ability to navigate complexity, collaborate effectively, and communicate clearly across multidisciplinary teams, as well as:
- A degree or HND in a relevant engineering or technical discipline.
- Experience applying structural integrity principles within complex engineering environments.
- Broad understanding of pressure-retaining components and relevant design codes (e.g. ASME, EN, PED/PSSR).
- Ability to construct and present logical, evidence-based safety arguments.
- Strong planning, coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Location
We offer flexible and hybrid working, with this role based at any Rolls-Royce SMR location. Occasional travel will be required to support collaboration.
What’s in it for you
We anticipate paying a salary of between £44,600 - £52,500 DOE plus:
- Bonus - Performance related target opportunity 12.5%.
- Benefits Allowance – £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package.
- Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
- Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.
- Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care.
- Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay.
- £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases.
You’ll be joining a forward-thinking organisation with strong growth plans and genuine opportunities to develop your career in a high-impact engineering environment.
