An exciting opportunity has arisen for a V&V IT Systems Engineer to join Test & Measurement Engineering in Derby. In this role, you will support the secure and reliable operation of specialist Test and Measurement IT infrastructure, working across virtualisation, Linux-based servers, networking, storage on the RR test network and wider IT systems. You will work closely with Rolls-Royce IT, vendors and Test & Measurement colleagues to support, maintain and develop IT infrastructure, including interfaces between corporate IT infrastructure and specialised Test and Measurement IT infrastructure support teams.

What you will be doing:

  • Support and manage VMware virtualisation environments.
  • Support Linux-based servers, including real-time kernel environments.
  • Operate and troubleshoot Cisco network switches, including configuration, port management and VLANs.
  • Manage user accounts and computer objects within a Microsoft Active Directory domain, including OU management, RBAC and group creation.
  • Test firewall rule changes and collaborate with the Network team to troubleshoot any issues.
  • Maintain secure and reliable IT infrastructure in accordance with industry best practices.

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Administer Dell Power series servers and associated storage appliances, including PowerProtect, PowerVault and PowerStore, covering maintenance, upgrades, monitoring and firmware/patch management.
  • Prepare and formally submit change requests, including firewall rule change documentation, for communication, approval and implementation by Rolls-Royce IT.
  • Collaborate with Rolls-Royce IT vendors to deliver specific work packages, particularly changes affecting interfaces between corporate IT infrastructure and specialised Test and Measurement IT infrastructure in Derby.
  • Work with global Test and Measurement IT colleagues to define and deploy standardised IT solutions aligned and agreed with Rolls-Royce Group IT.
  • Support incident response and troubleshooting across the IT infrastructure scope when required.

Position Qualifications:

  • Degree qualification or equivalent in a relevant discipline; relevant technical certifications such as VMware, Microsoft, Cisco or Dell are beneficial.
  • Understanding of Linux-based server configuration, including real-time kernel.
  • Proficiency with Cisco switches, including configuration, management and VLANs.
  • Strong Microsoft Active Directory administration skills, including user, group and OU management and RBAC.
  • Fundamental networking knowledge, including IP, subnets, routing, switching and firewall basics.
  • Broad IT systems and network knowledge, with the ability to work across technologies rather than within a single specialist area.
  • Understanding of containerisation.
  • Knowledge of automation and orchestration of virtualised infrastructure builds.
  • Understanding of cyber-security capabilities.
  • Excellent relationship and stakeholder management skills, including effective communication and influencing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an understanding of the broader business context.
  • A systematic and rigorous approach to planning, documentation and prioritisation.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Service management experience and a track record of delivering results within operational or service delivery roles.
  • Vendor management experience, particularly within an operational or service delivery environment.
  • Familiarity with Dell Power series appliances and storage platforms.
  • Experience with Citrix setup and management.
  • Certificate and licence management experience.
  • Understanding of Azure or Cloud-based infrastructure and management.
  • Experience developing and submitting formal change requests for approval.
  • Knowledge and experience of ITIL or similar service management processes.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with vendors and global colleagues.
  • Understanding of the configuration and support of monitoring technologies such as Tenable and Cribl.
  • Understanding of disaster recovery methods and infrastructure.
  • Backend database management skills for technologies such as SQL Server and MariaDB.
  • Understanding of technologies such as IIS, Apache or NGINX.

You will be well organised with a rigorous approach to your work and able to communicate effectively across IT and business teams. You will be comfortable producing clear change documentation, participating in review and approval processes, and collaborating effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
