We are looking for a Manufacturing Lab Technologist to join the team in Derby on a full-time permanent basis.

The Role: A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Lab Technologist within the Repair Special Process Group, this team is based within the Repair Organisation and works closely with the Repair Design, Repair Implementation and MRO teams based within the Services organisation. This is an exciting position that covers all parts of the engine for All Civil Large Engines Repaired at Overhaul Bases and specialist repair vendors both domestically and internationally and may occasionally require travel within the UK and Internationally.
The Repair Special process group are responsible for maintaining the Overhaul Process and Overhaul Material Manuals, this also includes the creation of new Overhaul Processes to support development of new repair technologies and techniques as well as ensuring vendors techniques and methods are in line with the relevant processes and standards.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure process compliance to National and International Standards through both the generation and maintenance of Overhaul Process Manuals.
- Interpret design, engineering requirements and other standards to ensure shop applications remain in compliance.
- Approve process data cards/procedures, process and Methods of Manufacture for Overhaul Bases and Repair Partners.
- Compile and Maintain Overhaul Process and Overhaul Material manuals for all Civil Large Engine Programs, ensuring these deliver cost effective, high quality repairs.
- Work closely with diverse teams based within Rolls-Royce and external vendors to advance specific processes and/or resolve manufacturing problems.
- Act as a specialist point of contact for the Product Control Authority (PCA), Manufacturing Engineering team and external vendors to guide requirements for method/process changes.
- Review of technical reports including microstructural evaluation and acceptance of test samples from multiple special processes, to ensure requirements of Repairs have been met.
- Drive continuous improvement and control activities to reduce process variation including identifying opportunities for data capture and process centering.
- Support the selection, justification and Publishing of new materials and processes into the repair manuals.
Basic and preferred qualifications:
- Qualified to degree level in Materials Science, Metallurgy or an appropriate Engineering discipline or evidence of relevant and suitable experience in Industry.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Data driven approach to problem solving.
