Duration: 4 years
At Rolls-Royce we are proud to be a business that has truly helped to shape the modern world and are committed to always being a force for progress; powering, protecting and connecting people everywhere.
By joining Rolls-Royce in an Emerging Talent programme, you will have the opportunity to work on world-class solutions, supported by a culture that believes individuality is our greatest strength, and all perspectives, experiences and backgrounds help us innovate and enable our high-performance culture.
Position summary: Our Manufacturing Engineers develop some of the most advanced manufacturing processes in the world, bringing to life the incredible products we design across the company and driving safety, quality and cost in our facilities and supply chains. Join them as an apprentice and you’ll be turning our designs into reality, learning from world-class experts, as well as customers, suppliers and operations specialists.
What you’ll be doing:
- You’ll spend your first year completing foundation training at the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), getting a broad understanding of manufacturing engineering principles.
- You’ll have the option to live in University of Sheffield halls of residence, paid for by us.
- From your second year, you’ll embark on a series of six-month placements on site at Rolls-Royce, at the site you have been recruited to. You may be required to complete placements outside of your recruiting site to complete all the scheme requirements. Where this is the case, your travel and expenses will be covered.
- Alongside job-specific training courses you’ll get to study for a BEng Manufacturing Technology degree at Sheffield University via the AMRC training centre, learning through a mix of block, remote and day release.
- During year 2, you will complete a 10-week training course, in person, at either our Derby or Bristol sites. Travel expenses will be paid if the site you complete this on is not your home site.
- Across your apprenticeship you’ll gain practical knowledge in areas such as developing new technology, introducing new products and continuously improving existing manufacturing processes and controlling change, implementing digital manufacturing solutions and interfacing with suppliers.
- Alongside this, you’ll learn how to manage projects and costs, how to design and validate manufacturing processes, how to solve engineering problems, and how to implement quality assurance methods.
Who we’re looking for:
- Five GCSEs which must include a minimum of Maths at grade 6/B, English Language at grade 4/C and Science (triple, double or single award excluding single Biology) at grade 4/C plus 2 others at grade 4/C.
- 112 UCAS points (obtained or predicted) from either:
- 3 A-Levels to include Maths at a grade B minimum and either Physics, Biology, Chemistry or Engineering at a grade B minimum
- A BTEC in an Engineering discipline which must include either a distinction in Further Maths or have a Maths A-Level in addition to the BTEC at a minimum grade C. Accepted BTECs - Aeronautical Engineering; Applied Science; Construction and the Built Environment; Electrical/Electronic Engineering; Engineering; Land-based Technology; Manufacturing Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; or Operations and Maintenance Engineering.
Every bit as important as your academic achievements, however, are the personal qualities you bring to the role. Creativity and an agile approach are both important, as are problem solving skills and collaborative team working. Above all, you will need to be passionate about manufacturing, as well as analytical, highly motivated, and most importantly, endlessly curious about how things are made and how processes work.
Our behaviours drive us - we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. We’ll expect that of you, too.
What you’ll get:
- A competitive starting salary with annual pay rises
- BEng Manufacturing Technology degree
- 33 days’ holiday per year (including bank holidays)
- Competitive pension
- A choice of voluntary benefits including discounts at nationwide stores, gyms, discounted health care, free digital GP, Cycle to Work scheme and more all available on our TotalReward portal
- Continuous learning and development
- Support from managers, leaders, mentors and other apprentices
- Opportunities to develop beyond your day-to-day role and get involved in social activities
