We have exciting opportunities for Component Design Engineers to join the Mechanical Control Units (MCU) team in Derby or Solihull. The Mechanical Control Units team are part of Design and Services Engineering within the Central Engineering Technology and Safety Function. We are accountable for supporting units within the Control System from initial requirements definition, through verification and validation to in service support. The Control System Units that we are accountable for include in-house designed Fuel Pumps, Metering Units and Actuators. We’re also responsible for components and units such as oil pumps & tanks; sensors; filters and heat exchangers procured from an extensive supply chain. This role will give the opportunity to work on Defence and Civil aerospace programmes across the globe, our team has a presence on every major RR aerospace site in the UK and US. This role can be based at either the Solihull or Derby facility.

As a Component Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the generation and management of the requirements for control units by using a system engineering approach to understanding the gas turbine functional, non-functional and environmental requirements. Supporting new product design solutions and in-service design change in compliance to Rolls-Royce process through either the Drawing Alteration or Full Design Change processes. Responsible for completion of documentation to support qualification/certification related to the design solution. This includes working with suppliers as well as Test and Development engineering to understand and execute verification and validation strategies. Complete trade studies and concept comparison to support new product and engine demonstrators to achieve the optimum design solution. Responsible for running or supporting root-cause investigations and for defining containment and corrective actions to address in-service problems. Responsible for assessing and recommending the sanctioning of non-conformances and minor changes to component definition to appropriate technical authority.
