Key Accountabilities
- Lead the Manufacturing Engineering activity in an operational part of the business.
- Be the overall Technical Authority across the total supply chain and product lifecycle, assuring the initial and continuing capability of the method of production to produce product conforming to design definition. Ensure technical support for resolution of problems is provided.
- In collaboration with the relevant Design Engineering Capability Chief (or equivalent), ensure that the method of production is capable of meeting the requirements of product and business in terms of Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery Rate & Leadtime (SQCD).
- Accountable for ensuring that all manufacturing processes and methods of manufacture deployed within the business are in full compliance to Health, Safety & Environmental Standards and meet the expectations of the Zero Harm programme.
- Accountable for compliance to the Product Safety Management System for all products in their area of accountability. Champion product safety and prioritise it so that safety-related tasks get the right attention, time and resources.
- Create a culture of zero defects within the organisation. Ensure that manufacturing processes and methods of manufacture within the business are developed and deployed to support Right First Time manufacture.
- Specify Manufacturing Engineering and process requirements and make technical decisions in relation to the Business.
- Govern the requirements for improvements/innovations in manufacturing processes and methods of manufacture within their area of accountability.
- Integrate Manufacturing Technology, Digital Manufacturing and Product Introduction activities within the business.
- Establish mechanisms to govern the achievement of Manufacturing Engineering deliverables, report status, and ensure issues and risks are resolved to meet project timescales.
- Buy-off the production readiness of new manufacturing capabilities or methods relevant to their commodities or products.
- Ensure manufacturing processes and/or methods of manufacture within the business are capable of meeting and continuing to meet requirements for quality, cost, delivery rate and lead time.
- Drive manufacturing processes (domestic and external) towards identified consistent best practice.
- Operate as an active member of the global Manufacturing Engineering leadership team, proactively supporting cross-Business collaboration, knowledge sharing, skills and process development.
- Responsible for self-development to meet the required skills and behaviours for the role.
- Manage, develop and maintain beneficial business relationships across the function, and with technology partners, joint ventures, risk and revenue sharing partners and other designated suppliers.
Key Experiences and Qualifications
- Has Company wide outlook and exposure to different challenges, cultures and ways of working.
- Held significant manufacturing roles across a range of relevant functional areas, demonstrating breadth of experience and of implementing change at pace.
- Has a proven track record delivering improved operational performance in both favourable and unfavourable conditions, utilising cross-functional teams.
- Leadership of major transformation projects and an exponent of continuous improvement methodologies such as six sigma and lean.
- Ideally, but not essential, broad management experience in a high technology engineering industry.
- Attended higher education and leadership development programmes for senior or high potential leaders.
