As a Manufacturing Engineer specialising in Optical and 3D Structured Light technologies for the Defence UK and International business, you will develop, programme and industrialise advanced measurement processes utilising 3D scanning equipment. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the accurate and efficient verification of current and next-generation products by applying state-of-the-art optical measurement techniques.

You will play a key role in implementing and optimising measurement solutions to inspect components, sub-assemblies, and complete products throughout their lifecycle - including new product introduction, production, assembly, as well as repair and overhaul. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the deployment of innovative metrology solutions that directly enhance product quality, process efficiency, and manufacturing excellence.

What you will be doing:

  • Develop and optimise 3D scanning and structured light measurement programs using appropriate metrology software (e.g., Zeiss Inspect, PolyWorks).
  • Validate measurement routines to ensure they meet quality, accuracy, efficiency, and safety standards throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Create clear operational work instructions for optical and 3D scanning inspection processes.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for production measurement issues, collaborating with operations to resolve challenges.
  • Define and implement setup, fixturing, and verification procedures that ensure verification processes are robust, repeatable, and safe for both products and people.

Position qualifications:

  • Professionally qualified engineer (e.g., UK minimum HND/foundation degree or national equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
  • Proficient in programming and operating 3D scanning or optical metrology software (e.g., Zeiss Inspect, PolyWorks).
  • Strong understanding of inspection and metrology principles, with hands-on experience using optical and 3D structured light technologies.
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing processes and general awareness of digital manufacturing systems (e.g., Teamcenter, NX).
  • Metrology qualification preferred (e.g., NPL Level 1/2 or NMSA Level 2/3, or equivalent).

This role will require you to hold a Developed Vetting (DV). To start, you will require a minimum Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don't currently already have this in place.

Rolls-Royce are committed to being a respectful, inclusive, and non-discriminatory workplace where individuality is valued, diverse perspectives fuel innovation, and everyone can thrive.

As part of our selection process, candidates in certain locations may be asked to complete an online assessment, which can include cognitive and behavioural aptitude testing relevant to the role. If required, full instructions for the next steps will be provided.
