We are currently recruiting for a position to join our Cost Control team for Rolls-Royce Submarines based in Bristol, Abbey Wood. The role involves recording, analysing and reporting project costs and undertaking related cost control activities, ensuring all financial and performance reporting requirements are met. You will provide assurance that projects comply with MoD and partners policy in respect of all cost activities, providing support to, and working under the guidance of the Cost Control Finance Lead and the wider team. This is an entry-level position suitable for individuals with 2-3 years experience and studying for their AAT (although not essential).

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location. It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you will be doing:

  • Produce accurate and timely forecasts ensuring any variance and financial risk commentary is accurate and insightful.
  • Provide Financial input, challenge and information at the PM/CAM monthly FOO reviews to empower stakeholder decision making.
  • Enter and reconcile cost information into various project financial systems from business case approvals, options and change requests, ensuring a clear audit trail.
  • Consistently monitor project cost spend against these approvals.
  • Challenge and interpret supply chains cost data to support accruals and project forecasting.
  • Produce accurate supporting data and inputs for the Annual Budget Cycle process in conjunction with PM/PCM, consolidating project data to produce the PCR forecast for the benefit of the whole delivery team.
  • Oversee the collation of the Senior Manager Screening Packs.
  • Produce accrual and general journals and option proposals to ensure robust supporting evidence is included.
  • Actively support the Cost Control Finance lead with any audit and compliance requests.
  • Support Estimators to develop cost models and assist in the production of Investment Appraisals.
  • Liaise with finance colleagues to ensure the correct financial treatment.
  • Work with PMS to make necessary corrections in CP&F.
  • Work with PM/Scheduler/PCM to implement Cost Loaded Schedules, to drive forecasting.
  • Assist with the production of EVM analysis to demonstrate project performance and analyse variances to plan, determining impact on the schedule and cost to complete the scope of work.
  • Ensure consistency with IYM and EVM reporting.
  • Provide support and training to other staff as required to deliver the needs of the Cost Control Team.
  • Communicate key project financial performance data to key members of the project, programme and Finance leadership.
  • Influence Leadership within the Programme, MoD and Supply chain within the Cost Control technical field.

Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent grades 9 – 4 (A* to C) including English and Maths. It would be desirable to have 2 x A Levels grades A* to E in any subject or equivalent. Previous experience of undertaking data analysis/interpretation of financial information would be advantageous.
