Job title: Aerothermal, Combustion Thermofluids, Performance Engineer
Working pattern: Full-time
Location: Derby or Bristol/Hybrid
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Aerothermal Engineer to join the \’Fluid Mechanics – Aerothermal, Combustion, Thermofluids and Performance\’ function, at Rolls-Royce based in Derby or Bristol.
This role is part of a high profile, fast paced and ambitious engineering challenge. What we are striving to achieve requires innovative thinking, creative problem solving, clarity of purpose and a willingness to demonstrate leadership at the highest level. Our engineering leadership is supportive, team oriented, focused and equipped with a range of engineering disciplines; we anticipate you adding another pillar to an already formidable capability.
As an Aerothermal Engineer, you will be responsible for and have knowledge in problem resolution, defining requirements, analysing test data, aerothermal and thermodynamic modelling of components and systems to facilitate component and engine design. In addition, responsibilities include methods development, rig test support, verifying products, and supporting physical & functional systems and components throughout the product lifecycle.

What you will be doing
In the role, you will be accountable for:

  • Using in-house computational tools and methods to derive understanding of component and system level interactions to develop and maintain a functional understanding of the engine and understand interactions in combustion and high temperature environments.
  • Requirement setting for rig activities, and subsequent monitoring and analysis of rig test measurements and results.
  • Occasional running and supporting of low and high technology level tests.
  • Developing methods with view to facilitating robust test vehicle design, including flight test.
  • Defining creative, robust, optimised, solutions managing risk and applying new technology as appropriate to deliver quality within highly regulated industries.
  • Supporting validation and verification activities.

Who we are looking for

  • Bachelor\’s degree or Masters in Engineering or regional equivalent qualification, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge in Aerothermal methodologies and have an understanding of cross-discipline engineering concepts and there impacts on system/platform design.
  • An ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems and make balanced decisions across technical and business parameters.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body appropriate to region. In the UK – attained/ working towards Chartered status is preferred (and equivalent regional variations).
  • Good communication and presentation skills at all levels of the organisation.
