We are Rolls‑Royce SMR, working on a pioneering new type of power station. This role is more than a job; it is part of a legacy that is shaping the future of nuclear energy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and advise the Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) delivery programme as part of the overall safety assessment programme.
  • Support engineering disciplines in decision‑making, enabling PSA results to inform design option selection.
  • Ensure appropriate quality and governance of PSA development and submissions.
  • Represent the project at internal technical reviews and external regulatory meetings.
  • Evaluate the quality and scope of work undertaken by supply‑chain partners.
  • Train and develop PSA engineers within RR SMR, delivering PSA knowledge to the wider engineering community.
  • Contribute to the development and review of the RR SMR PSA.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning and the maintenance of the nuclear safety culture.
  • Stay updated on industry developments and relevant external industry groups.

Qualifications

  • PSA and Safety Case Experience.
  • Experience with PWR‑type reactor designs (preferred).
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (UK, IAEA, US).
  • Experience with the UK civil nuclear regulatory regime or knowledge of equivalent regulations in other countries.
  • Experience using PSA to support risk‑informed design of a nuclear power plant.
  • Expertise in PSA specialist topics or applications.
  • Familiarity with PSA software tools (e.g., RiskSpectrum) and optionally Phoenix Architect.
  • Degree level qualification in Engineering, Maths, Physics or equivalent significant relevant industry experience.
  • Chartered status or working toward chartered status with a professional engineering body.

Salary and Package

  • Salary £48,000 – £62,500 DOE
  • Performance‑related bonus target 12.5%
  • Benefits allowance £2,200 per annum
  • Pension – 12% employer and 6% employee contributions
  • 28 days holiday (+ public holidays), with option to buy/sell up to 4 days
  • Private medical insurance – BUPA single cover
  • Life assurance – 6x pensionable pay
  • £250 one‑off payment for new starters to cover home‑office purchases
