The Team: The Reactor Island Civil & Structural team is central to the development of the RR SMR design, responsible for the analysis and substantiation of safety‑critical structures. The team applies advanced engineering and analytical techniques to ensure designs meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and regulatory compliance.
Role Overview: Lead the development and delivery of structural analysis activities, supporting the design and substantiation of critical reactor structures and contributing to the overall safety case for the programme.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, execution and interpretation of finite element analysis models to support structural design and substantiation.
- Define analysis approaches, including model fidelity, to address complex structural behaviours and loading conditions.
- Support the development of safety‑classified structures through robust, traceable analytical evidence aligned to quality standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure analysis outputs inform and influence the evolving design.
Qualifications:
- A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent demonstrable industry experience).
- Experience leading structural analysis activities and delivering engineering solutions within infrastructure or other regulated, safety‑critical environments.
- Strong technical knowledge of finite element analysis, structural behaviour, and relevant design codes and standards.
- Experience in the analysis of reinforced concrete and/or steel structures, including consideration of complex loading scenarios such as seismic, thermal, pressure, or extreme events.
- Chartered status and nuclear industry experience are desirable, but not essential.
Working Arrangements: Flexible hybrid working; you will be expected to attend a UK office location as required to support collaboration and programme delivery.
Benefits:
- Salary: £48,000‑£63,000 per annum.
- Bonus: Performance‑related target opportunity of 7%.
- Benefits Allowance: £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package.
- Pension: 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
- Holidays: 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) with the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.
