Why we need you

Reporting to the Nuclear Security Case Manager, the Security Systems Associate Engineer plays a key role in assisting in the design of the Integrated Security Solution for the Rolls-Royce SMR power station, supporting the development of the nuclear security case, the successful completion of the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), Environment Agency (EA) and Natural Resources Wales (NRW) Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process, and the ongoing support of the generic design.

What you’ll be doing

We need you to

  • Assist ‑ in the design of the site security solution.
  • Assist ‑ in the implementation of the Categorisation and Classification (Cat and Class) framework for security to support Secure by Design (Sby D).
  • Assist ‑ in the development of the Physical Protection System (PPS) and Cyber Protection System (CPS) to deliver integrated security effects, within an Integrated Security Solution (ISS), that meet or exceed the ONR’s required outcomes.
  • Aiding the integrating of the PPS and CPS design activities with engineering activities and processes to support Sby D.
  • Supporting the management of security requirements.
  • Aiding functional modelling of security functions and interfaces.
  • Collection of evidence from engineering processes, validation and verification to support the security case.
  • Secure By Design
  • Creates documentation of requirements so they can be understood by engineers, and non-engineers.
  • Preparation of detailed workflow and diagrams that describe input, output and logical operation of the ISS, including relevant aspects of physical, personnel and cyber security.
  • Assists the production of high-level designs and supports processes for maintaining the security of a service through its full life cycle.
  • Assists in the communication of security requirements into application design elements including documenting specific security criteria.
  • Legal & Regulatory Requirements
  • Describes the major legislative regulatory instruments relevant to security legislation and regulation relevant to the role.
  • Maintains understanding of regulations that will impact the role.
  • Follows documented procedures for compliance or regulations.
  • Risk Management
  • Describes the basic principles of risk understanding and mitigation
  • Supports other security professionals in carrying out risk assessments and developing mitigation strategies
  • Follows documented principles and guidelines for risk understanding and mitigation

Experience & Knowledge

  • Relevant security certification or training to demonstrate domain knowledge.
  • Systems engineering, including use of industry-standard requirements management and systems modelling tools.
  • Experience delivering security for new build or large projects within the critical national infrastructure or incorporating nuclear power (civil or defence).

Qualifications

  • Degree level or equivalent in engineering or related discipline

Working style

The team is hybrid, relaxed and highly collaborative, with occasional travel to Derby for team activities or in‑person sessions. We can offer flexible and part‑time options.

  • Bonus opportunity: 12.5%

Security and financial probity checks (including DBS/SC) form part of our offer process, but they are always assessed in context and are not pass/fail.

However this role requires the successful applicant to obtain SC clearance and therefore must be a UK national.
