We need you to play a key role in developing the Rolls‑Royce SMR Power Station and supporting the successful completion of the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) and wider licensing and permitting activities. You’ll help shape the future of clean energy by ensuring our designs meet the highest standards of external hazard resilience—supporting a programme that’s critical to the safety, reliability, and delivery of SMR technology.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Developing and maintaining the external hazards programme within the SMR delivery roadmap.
- Preparing detailed External Hazards submissions for the Environment, Safety, Security & Safeguards (E3S) Case and the GDA.
- Supporting engineering disciplines to ensure the design meets external hazards requirements, helping to identify and close any gaps.
- Applying quality and governance standards across reports and submissions.
- Presenting outputs to support licensing efforts and engaging with regulators and other stakeholders.
- Assessing potential power station sites with respect to external hazards and broader influencing factors.
What You’ll Bring
- Technical Expertise
- Understanding of external hazards affecting complex facilities (e.g., operating nuclear power plants) and derivation of withstand requirements.
- Knowledge of Safety Case development and Deterministic Safety Assessment.
- Regulatory Experience
- Experience with the UK civil nuclear regulatory regime, or international equivalents.
- Industry Background
- Experience in nuclear power plant design.
- Soft Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to represent the project internally and externally.
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and to tight deadlines.
Qualifications
Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Maths, Physics, or significant relevant industry experience.
Pay, Benefits & Reward

- £40,000 – £52,500 base salary
- £2,200 annual benefit allowance
