Role: Engineer / Analyst – Civil & Structural

Locations: Hybrid working with primary locations: Derby, Warrington or Manchester

Overview

Our mission is to deliver clean, affordable energy for all. Our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) provides a British solution to a global energy crisis. The Reactor Island Civil & Structural team develops and substantiates the structures underpinning the safety and performance of the SMR.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver structural analysis using finite element methods (e.g., ABAQUS, Robot, or similar) to support design and substantiation.
  • Develop global and detailed models to understand structural behaviour, load paths, and responses.
  • Support key programme deliverables, including Generic Design Assessment (GDA) submissions and technical packages.
  • Work closely with design engineers and interfacing teams to ensure analysis aligns with and informs design development.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in structural analysis, ideally including finite element modelling in infrastructure or regulated environments.
  • Understanding of structural behaviour, loading conditions (including complex or extreme loads), and relevant codes/standards.
  • Experience developing models, explaining assumptions, and using analysis outputs to support engineering decisions.

Location

Hybrid working with an expectation to attend a UK office location (Derby, Warrington or Manchester) as required to support team collaboration and project delivery.

Benefits

  • Salary: £40,000 – £52,500 DOE.
  • Performance‑related bonus target: 12.5%.
  • Benefits allowance: £2,200 per annum.
  • Pension: 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
  • Holidays: 28 days + public holidays, with option to buy/sell up to 4 days.

  • Life assurance: 6x pensionable pay.
  • One‑off payment: £250 for home office purchases.

Selection Process

The process includes an initial screening call followed by interview stages. Successful candidates will be required to complete BPSS clearance, a DBS check, and a financial probity check.
