Rolls-Royce SMR

Rolls-Royce SMR is at the forefront of delivering a new era of clean, affordable nuclear power. Our small modular reactor programme is transforming how nuclear energy is deployed – combining proven technology with advanced manufacturing to support the UK’s net zero ambitions.

As we continue our new 2026 headcount growth, we are expanding our technical capability within Operations. This is an opportunity to join a highly innovative environment where precision, quality, and safety are critical to everything we do.

The Role

As Lead Metrologist, you will act as the technical authority for dimensional measurement across the organisation, ensuring our measurement systems, standards, and equipment are robust, compliant, and capable of supporting nuclear-grade manufacturing.

You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring measurement accuracy, traceability, and reliability – directly impacting product integrity and nuclear safety – while enabling efficient and scalable manufacturing across our internal teams and supply chain.

What you’ll be doing

  • Defining and deploying the organisation-wide metrology strategy, aligned to manufacturing and product requirements

  • Establishing measurement standards, procedures, and governance in line with ISO 9001, ASME NQA-1, ISO 17025

  • Acting as the subject matter expert for dimensional metrology, calibration, and measurement uncertainty

  • Leading measurement system capability activities including MSA, Gauge R&R and uncertainty evaluation

  • Ensuring inspection equipment and processes are capable, controlled, and fit for purpose

  • Defining and governing calibration strategies and equipment lifecycle management

  • Supporting integration of metrology into digital manufacturing and quality systems

  • Working closely with suppliers to assess and improve measurement capability across the supply chain

  • Interfacing with regulators and certification bodies during audits

  • Coaching and developing organisational capability in metrology best practice

What you’ll bring

  • Extensive experience in dimensional metrology within regulated industries (nuclear, aerospace, defence or similar)

  • Strong expertise in measurement uncertainty, calibration, and inspection strategy definition

  • Deep working knowledge of ISO 17025, ASME NQA-1, and GD&T (ASME Y14.5)

  • Proven ability to implement capable measurement systems (MSA, Gauge R&R) in production environments

  • Experience integrating metrology into DfMA and industrialised manufacturing approaches

  • Experience working with and developing supplier capability in regulated environments

This role is flexible across UK Rolls-Royce SMR locations, with hybrid working available. Travel will be required to supplier and delivery sites to support manufacturing, integration, and oversight activities.

In addition to a salary between £63,700 and £78,750, we offer many additional benefits:
