Overview of the Senior Engineer – Electrical Power Systems Analysis in the Electrical Systems function at Rolls‑Royce SMR.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain and interrogate electrical power system models for complex HV and LV networks.
- Carry out power system studies including load flow, short‑circuit and transient analysis.
- Interpret and apply analysis results to inform and justify design decisions.
- Support development of electrical system architectures and single line diagrams.
- Produce high‑quality technical reports, calculations and presentations.
- Support requirements definition, verification planning and technical review activities.
- Apply engineering lifecycle processes to ensure design maturity and quality.
- Work collaboratively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Support continuous improvement of analysis methods and modelling capability.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in electrical power engineering and power system modelling and analysis.
- Proficiency in ETAP; knowledge of high‑ and low‑voltage power systems and distribution architectures.
- Experience conducting load flow, short‑circuit and transient analysis and interpreting results.
- Familiarity with analysis and cable sizing software packages (desirable).
- Track record of working across the electrical system lifecycle in a highly regulated industry (e.g., nuclear, defence, aerospace, rail, automotive or oil & gas) is advantageous.
- Knowledge of electrical design codes and standards relevant to power system analysis.
- Strong understanding of engineering lifecycle and design processes.
- Ability to produce clear technical reports and presentations supporting design maturity and decision‑making.
- Positive technical role model; proactive behaviours and ability to mentor less experienced engineers.
Location: Hybrid working with primary sites in Derby, Manchester, or Warrington.
Salary & Benefits:
- Salary band: £50,650 – £66,500 (dependent on skills, values, and knowledge).
- Bonus – performance‑related target opportunity up to 12.5%.
- Benefits allowance – £2,200 per annum for a bespoke package.
- Pension – 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
- Holidays – 28 days (+ public holidays) with the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.
