We are Rolls‐Royce SMR and we’re doing something that’s never been done before. We’re revolutionising an industry. That’s a once‐in‐a‐career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.
The Performance & Analysis team is the centre of excellence for the engineering analysis used to verify the performance and safety of the Rolls‐Royce SMR power station. Analysis disciplines span thermodynamic performance, thermal‐hydraulic safety system modelling, structural analysis, chemistry, and many more. These capabilities underpin the digital‐first approach we are taking to design, verification, validation and optimisation of the power station.
As our analytical landscape grows in scale, complexity and importance, we must ensure that engineering analysis across the business is delivered in a world‐class manner—using high‐quality processes, robust governance, modern tools and efficient digital workflows. This role is central to leading that transformation and shaping the future of analysis excellence across RR‐SMR.
About the Role:
As Senior Manager – Engineering Analysis Capability Development, you will own the strategic direction, leadership and governance of analysis capability across the full range of engineering disciplines. You will build and lead a high‐performing team responsible for developing tools, methods, processes and platforms that elevate analysis quality, accuracy, efficiency and throughput.
You will define and own the taxonomy of analysis capabilities required for the SMR programme, set the vision for cross‐discipline capability development and lead a major multi‐year investment programme to strengthen analysis maturity. You will also oversee the integration of innovative technologies—including advanced software engineering, workflow automation and AI‐enabled analysis tools—to streamline and accelerate key processes.
You will lead a small team of software engineers and specialists, manage a significant annual investment programme, and engage with senior stakeholders across engineering, V&V, R&T, IT and wider business functions to ensure analysis teams have the environment, processes and tools required to excel.
We’ll Need You To:
- Own the strategy and roadmap for engineering analysis capability across all analysis disciplines
- Provide technical programme leadership for a multi‐year capability development programme
- Build and maintain a clear taxonomy of analysis capabilities and their required maturity levels
- Lead a team of software engineers and technical specialists, ensuring delivery of high‐quality analysis tools and platforms
- Oversee quality assurance of software developed for analysis workflows
- Develop, govern and improve processes, procedures and guidance relating to engineering analysis activities
- Drive best‐practice sharing, cross‐discipline integration and community building across analytical teams
- Shape and champion the role of AI and digital technologies in analysis capability development
- Build strong relationships with key interfacing functions (Engineering Capability, V&V, R&T, IT)
- Ensure capability‐development activities are delivered to time, cost and quality, supported by robust planning and prioritisation
- Contribute positively to the Performance & Analysis leadership team, shaping strategy, culture and continuous improvement

- Ability to translate experience from one analysis area to others, understanding cross‐discipline challenges and opportunities
- Vision for how modern software engineering and AI can enhance engineering analysis
- Experience leading multi‐disciplinary capability‐development programmes across several technical areas
- Expertise in programme management—scope definition, planning, delivery management, risk management and prioritisation
- Strong strategic mindset with the ability to challenge the status quo and shape long‐term capability direction
- Excellent communication, relationship‐building and influencing skills, with a dynamic and enthusiastic approach to innovation
- Experience leading diverse engineering teams, including full line‐management responsibilities
- Ability to assure technical quality through review, coaching and intervention
