Our mission is to deliver clean, affordable energy for all. Our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) provides a British solution to a global energy crisis. We are in pole position to become a world leader in SMRs and the UK’s premier green export technology.
The Reactor Island Civil & Structural team is responsible for developing and substantiating the structures that underpin the safety and performance of the SMR. Working in a highly regulated environment, the team combines advanced analysis with practical engineering to support innovative, safety‐critical design solutions.
In this context, we are looking for an Engineer / Analyst – Civil & Structural to support a Reactor Island Team Leader in delivering structural analysis across key work packages. As part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team, you’ll contribute to the design and substantiation of reinforced concrete and steel structures, helping to define the integrity of a first-of-a-kind nuclear plant.
We’ll need you to:
- Deliver structural analysis using finite element methods (e.g. ABAQUS, Robot or similar) to support design and substantiation
- Develop both global and more detailed models to understand structural behaviour, load paths, and responses
- Support key programme deliverables, including Generic Design Assessment (GDA) submissions and technical packages
- Work closely with design engineers and interfacing teams to ensure analysis aligns with and informs design development
As you can see, this is a pivotal role within a nationally significant programme. You’ll bring a structured, analytical mindset, curiosity, and a collaborative approach, alongside:
We’re looking for:
- A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience in structural analysis, ideally including finite element modelling in infrastructure or regulated environments
- Understanding of structural behaviour, loading conditions (including complex or extreme loads), and relevant codes/standards
- Experience developing models, explaining assumptions, and using analysis outputs to support engineering decisions
Location
We offer flexible working, with an expectation to attend a UK office location as required to support team collaboration and project delivery.
What’s in it for you
We anticipate paying a salary of between £40,000 - £52,500 DOE plus:
- Bonus - Performance related target opportunity 12.5%
- Benefits Allowance – £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package
- Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
- Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.
- Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care
- Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
- £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
