The Radiological Consequences team plays a critical role in demonstrating the safety of the SMR power station. Through advanced modelling and analysis, the team evaluates the impact of fault and accident scenarios, supporting the development of the safety case and enabling confident, safety‐informed design decisions.
About the Role:
As an Associate Engineer – Radiological Consequences Analysis, you will support the modelling and assessment of radiological releases during accident scenarios, helping to determine their impact on workers, the public and the environment. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams across safety analysis, system design, severe accident modelling and chemistry to develop and apply analytical methods that support the substantiation of the SMR design. Your work will contribute directly to demonstrating compliance with nuclear safety requirements and the application of ALARP principles. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop specialist expertise in nuclear safety analysis while building strong foundations in systems engineering, modelling and technical problem‐solving.
We’ll Need You To:
- Support modelling of radiological releases during fault and accident scenarios
- Contribute to the development of methodologies for source term and radionuclide transport analysis
- Apply analytical tools and models to assess radiological consequences for on‐site and off‐site receptors
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to define and scope analysis requirements
- Support development of dispersion modelling and dose assessment calculations
- Produce high‐quality technical reports to support safety case development
- Participate in verification and validation of models and analysis outputs
- Support continuous improvement of analysis methods, tools and processes
- Collaborate effectively with stakeholders across engineering and safety disciplines
- Plan and manage your work to deliver to agreed quality and timescales
Key Skills Required:

- Strong academic background in engineering, physics, mathematics or a related discipline
- Understanding of analytical or modelling approaches to complex engineering problems
- Awareness of radiological protection principles and nuclear safety concepts (desirable)
- Ability to apply structured and methodical approaches to analysis
- Interest in modelling tools and techniques (e.g. Python or similar desirable)
- Strong problem‐solving and analytical thinking skills
- Good communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts clearly
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- Adaptability and willingness to learn in a fast‐moving engineering environment
Qualifications:
- Degree‐qualified (or expected) in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related discipline

Hybrid working with one of the following as your primary site: Warrington or Manchester
Salary and Package:
The salary band for this role will be between £30,000 – £39,400 dependent on the skills, values and knowledge you bring. There may be flexibility in exceptional cases as the role develops over time.
Benefits include:

Selection Process:
