At Rolls–Royce SMR, we are delivering clean, affordable, sustainable energy. We are recruiting a Senior Engineer – Pipework Component Design to join our team responsible for high‑integrity pipework component design for our SMR power stations.

Responsibilities

  • Design pipework components to ASME III / ASME B31.x / EN 13480 / PED and internal safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Produce design substantiation, technical specifications, calculations and justifications.
  • Review drawings, isometrics, material selections and supplier documentation.
  • Work with suppliers to resolve technical queries, ensuring manufacturability, material traceability and compliance.
  • Support audits, inspections, and assurance activities across the programme.
  • Contribute to FMEA, ALARP assessments, and option‑selection activities.
  • Provide technical oversight, coaching and peer reviews to uplift team capability.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in pipework component design.
  • Strong understanding of ASME III, ASME B31.x, EN 13480, PED or similar high‑integrity industry codes.
  • Experience producing design substantiation/justification and safety‑critical technical documentation.
  • Exposure to fabrication, installation or field engineering.
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers, manufacturing and regulatory/inspection bodies.
  • HNC/degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar; Chartered (or working towards) is desirable.

Location & Hybrid Working

Flexible hybrid working with office hubs in Derby, Manchester and Warrington. Typical attendance 1–2 days per week, arrangements discussed during recruitment.

Pay and Benefits

  • Salary £48,000 – £62,500 DOE
  • Performance related bonus 12.5%
  • Benefits allowance £2,200 per annum
  • Pension 12% employer + 6% employee contributions
  • 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) with up to 4 days buy/sell option
  • Private medical insurance – BUPA single cover
  • Life assurance 6× pensionable pay £250
  • One‑off payment for new starters for home office purchases
