Role Overview

Engineering Capability – Governance and Assurance Senior Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Support and deliver governance reviews and assurance activities across engineering.
  • Develop, review, maintain and continuously improve engineering processes, templates, guidance and governance documentation.
  • Collaborate with assurance, quality, design and engineering stakeholders to identify gaps, non‑conformances, process inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.
  • Investigate process‑related issues, conduct root‑cause analysis, gather evidence and produce high‑quality reports with clear recommendations.
  • Track, prioritise and support the implementation of improvement actions, ensuring recommendations translate into meaningful outcomes.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement activities, gather feedback, promote best practice and support organisational learning.
  • Support change implementation activities to embed new processes and ways of working across the business.
  • Use data, evidence and insight to inform decision‑making and drive continuous improvement across engineering capability.

Qualifications & Professional Development

  • Engineering degree or equivalent professional experience within engineering, governance, assurance, quality, operational excellence or a related discipline.
  • Working toward Chartered Engineer status or another relevant professional accreditation is advantageous.

Experience

  • Experience contributing to governance, assurance, compliance, quality, continuous improvement or process improvement activities.
  • Experience working within engineering, manufacturing, nuclear, aerospace, defence, infrastructure, energy or another highly regulated environment.
  • Experience supporting investigations, audits, assessments, process reviews or assurance activities and translating findings into practical recommendations.
  • Experience working with cross‑functional teams to implement improvements and drive organisational change.
  • Knowledge & Skills
  • Knowledge of governance frameworks, process management principles, assurance methodologies, quality management systems or business process improvement techniques.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build credibility and productive working relationships across diverse teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present findings, recommendations and technical information clearly.
  • Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills with the ability to assess complex information and identify root causes.
  • Structured and organised approach, maintaining high attention to detail while managing competing priorities.
  • Continuous improvement mindset coupled with curiosity, resilience and a desire to challenge existing ways of working constructively.
  • Success Milestones
  • Within 6 months: establish relationships across engineering, quality, assurance and support functions; build a detailed understanding of the engineering process landscape and governance framework; manage governance reviews and assurance activities.
  • Within 12 months: contribute to implementation of process and governance improvements aligned to business strategy and regulatory requirements; develop improved guidance, templates, tools and governance arrangements; establish effective stakeholder feedback mechanisms.
  • Long‑term: become a recognised and trusted member of the Governance and Assurance team, influence improvements across the organisation and support a culture of learning, accountability, compliance and engineering excellence.
  • Location & Working Arrangements

Hybrid and flexible working arrangements with regular attendance required at one of the offices in Derby, Manchester or Warrington.

Occasional travel between sites may be required for stakeholder engagement, workshops and reviews.

Remuneration & Benefits

Target performance‑related bonus: 12.5%.

Benefits include allowance £2,200 per annum, 12% employer pension contribution, 6% employee contribution, 28 days holiday plus public holidays (with option to buy or sell up to 4 days), private medical insurance, life assurance and a one‑off home office purchase payment.
